So, I was thinking of buying a 360 soon. But i've heard of the 'Red Ring of Death' and about the 360 scratching discs, which makes me think that is the 360 still a good purchase?

Oh God, I'm so sick of these "ZOMG THE RING OF DEATH" kind of threads. Let me sum it up for you, Yes there is a problem with some of the Xbox 360s. No, not all of them have this problem (for example, mine - since launch).. You are taking a chance with any system of having problems, its a risk you have to take if you are a gamer. And finally, Yes the Xbox 360 is a excellent buy, its an amazing system with great games.

Well I wouldn't invest my money on a thing that has a good chance it breaks up for nothing.

And for the record I enjoyed my 360 for 1,5 years until it went all Saturday Night Fever on me.

Yeah it is. there are many great games coming out this fall, all of which justify buying a 360.

Of course the 360 is a good purchase. In fact it's an amazing purchase. The library of games available is simply incredible. The list of games that are on their way out is just as incredible as the ones out if not better.

Why do ppl still bash the red ring of death if it happens they fix it for free up to 3 years after the purchase of the system, I mean it's actually happened to me but I lived for the week and a half it took to get back, but yeah if you're a heavy gamer the 360 is easily your system, if you play games casually go with a Wii it's cheaper and appeals more to the casual gamer.

Straight up, yes it is a good system, (has issues but so do all of electronics) but also are the other two also. Matters what type of games you enjoy since they all generally have different types to offer. Research what games you like and what your interested in go from there.

PS: The disc scratching is only when you move the system when it is turned on. Don't do that lol.

the more you think about it, the less of a great purchase it becomes.

I just bought mine a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. The XBOX Live interface is very streamlined and easy to use. There are a bundle of demos that you can download to try out games beforehand. The games have a lot of replay value. For example, I burned through my PS2 games in a few hours. I've logged about 100 hours in Oblivion and still haven't scratched the surface of it. The console itself has worked perfectly for me thus far, although it is a little on the loud side. And as a final note, if you decide to get one and get on XBOX Live, it takes some time to get used to all the jerks on there. For the first two weeks I couldn't find anyone worth playing against (rampant teabagging and such) but it gets a lot better after you build up a solid friends list. I hear there's going to be a price drop this weekend, so if you pick one up feel free to hit me up! Gamertag: Bubarian1102

it broke down on me, but it's one of the best systems I've ever played on.  Just look for recommendations on preventing it from overheating, and you'll be okay.  Mine actually lasted for a year.  It's well worth it.  Enjoy!

yes mine is a launch 360 and it just got the ring of death, its not a big deal, you ship it in, they ship it fixed, plus most new ones dont get the red ring of death, also, scratching discs is the owners fault. they only get scratched if you move the console while a game is in there, if you dont move the console witha game in it, itll be fine

Well it's been out the longest, so it has a much larger game library then any of the other consoles, not to mention all of those Xbox Live Arcade games. If the exclusives interest you (Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, etc), I'd definitely buy it.

The red rings of death aren't a big deal anymore, just send it so MS and yatta yatta no worries.

it is a very good purchase and the red ring of death really only happened on the 360's from launch now they got most of the bugs worked out and also the only way the disc is scartched is if u turn ur 360 while playing.and if u a get a 360 it is a good idea to get a intercooler just incause!!

Yea if you get the 360 make sure you buy the Elite. It is only 80 dollars morea and has a 120 gig hard drive.Or you could just wait because I heard they may have a price drop or something like that.Just make sure you get Gears of War best game ever made.

Ok, guess I have to buy the 360 after the price drop . And you say I should also get the intercooler? There's just one thing I don't understand... And that is that why do we need to pay for Xbox Live, because Microsoft is already freaking rich?
