i would have to say no.Knights of the old rebublic is closercloser to dragon age. but id say mass effect is way different gameplay wisethan Biowares normal formula. Does it hold up? yeah i have to say the combat in ME is fun and challenging.

Does KOTOR hold up? I've already played ME1 and ME2 and loved both. I've heard good things about KOTOR so I was just wondering if I should pull the trigger on it.

yea, the first kotor does hold up but the second one not so much. the only thing that would feel behind are the graphics, which you can get used to after a few hours. the combat is very similar to DA:O and it should hold up fine.

the only thing you might wanna check is how well it runs on the 360... i remember having issues with lag and texture popping on the 360 which butchered the combat... you might wanna play it in the original xbox or in pc if you can.

If you can get past the older graphics and the little different combat, then you will like it a lot. Its very much like Mass effect. Biotic powers, force powers. You get a ship as well and get to go to other planets. Have conversations, squad members. They are very similiar.

kotor=best game on xbox

Mass Effect 1 + 2=best games on 360

however, this is where the similarities end, as KOTOR is turned based, using the Dungeons and Dragons D20 turned based combat system, not the third person shooter mechanics of mass effect

dragon age: origins uses the same system from KOTOR, however, and is much more complex than ME, so it is much more similar to KOTOR than ME ever will be, at least in regards to combat

ME is similar to KOTOR in that the stories are both space operas, other than that, they arent very similar at all

i do recommend getting KOTOR, and its sequel, as they are some of the best games ever made imo

If you haven't played KOTOR, do it now!! The game has aged very well IMO, and it's still top 2-3 games I've ever played.

Yes, they are very similar. Knights of the Old Republic is to Mass Effect what System Shock is to Bioshock. The combat mechanics are the most significant differences, but the core elements of each games are pretty similar. KoTR is a more of a "traditional" RPG. The graphics quality may somewhat affect your enjoyment of the game after seeing Mass Effect's high quality textures, but it remains to this day one of the best Star Wars games ever made. (The alien languages are not very convincing, however. I disliked the way the game constantly looped the same sound files for different dialogues.)

And Bastila can still hold her own against Miranda.

Yes, Mass Effect1 and 2 reminded me alot of KOTOR.
The main difference is ME series has some shooter aspects, while KOTOR is 100% rpg and ME series are maybe 50-50.

If you have a decent PC then you can get the game for 5$.

If you are definatly looking for the xbox version then you can find a used copy for about 10$ (just hard to find sometimes)

Just be aware that Bioware did not develop KOTOR 2.
Definitely get KOTOR. Personally, I enjoyed KOTOR ten times more than ME. But that's my opinion.

KotOR is one of the best games ever storywise. Way better than Mass Effect (and I love Mass Effect).
