I want to get Borderlands GOTY but I don't have xbox live. Do I have to play it online with others to fully enjoy it? What changes does online co-op add to the game. If you are playing solo, do the characters classes that you choose from become AI and can go on squad missions with them still? I can play split-screen with family but I don't know if they are available anytime.

Thanks

yes it really is worth it! such an awesome game... Dont worry about not being ble to play online because of the split screen. If your family/friends are not available it doesnt matter as they can hop in and out of your game.

When playing solo it's just that, solo. No AI, squad missions etc. Just you. I've played it through twice now solo and I had a lot of fun, so I'd say it's worth it.

It's worth noting that you can play splitscreen co-op offline, so you aren't totally without options.

Edit: And I just noticed someone else already noted it. I guess I should read the whole thread before I reply, especially when it's only 3 posts long :P

I was wondering this myself.

Would anyone recommend playing it totally solo? I have no interest in playing with randoms and I doubt any of my RL friends would buy it...

So, it'd just be me playing. Would it basically be the same game, except for the fact yopu don'y have any teammates or people to talk to in-game?

YES. My first playthrough was solo and it was awesome. However, DO NOT, under any circumstances, play mad moxis Underdome riot on solo.... It was the worst, most tedious 8 hours of monotonous gaming in my life..

I personally found Borderlands to be a completely miserable game to play through alone. I only boot it up if someone is willing to play along.

It was decent solo, but you can tell parts of it would be way more fun with friends. There was at least 2 boss fights that were a total bore due to repetition and not being able to deal enough damage alone.

I have never played Borderlands with anyone, only solo. So it's definately worth it, I already have 2 on Pre-order.

Almost all of my playtime on Borderlands has been solo. For the co-op achievements, I just plugged in a second controller and got them while playing solo. The only time I played with people was when killing the major boss at the end of the Secret Armory. I definitely recommend playing Borderlands, even if it is solo. I had a blast. The story is good enough and funny enough to make you want to keep playing through all of it.

Personally - I tried plying it solo but just found that I didn't enjoy it - too many parts where i didn't have enough fire power to complete sections.......the looting and leveling up etc is fun and the look and atmosphere of the game is great - but I didn't end up finishing it as I just go so frusrtated with parts of it......just my opinion :)

I played the game through solo and loved every minute of it. I've been playing through it again before Borderlands 2 and most of it has been solo on my second run. Fantastic game. When playing with other people, the enemies get harder and you have others playing with you. I've found that when playing co-op you don't really pay any attention to the story. More about the action and just completing quests. When your doing it solo, you actually pay attention to the story and spend more time taking in the sights.

Game is awesome in single player mode. In fact, I liked it more solo than with co op. But really it just depends on circumstances. I was continuously being paired up with individuals with bottom of the barrel IQs so I suspect co op would be better with the right people. None the less the game is quite enjoyable even while playing by yourself plus no fighting over loot.

You have to play Siren if you are playing alone.

I thought Mordekai was pretty easy playing alone. Especially if you go with a gunslinger build. My most powerful weapons were always revolvers for some reason.

With Split-Screen Co-op (Thank goodness!) it's a great game. Solo it's still an amazing game. If your gonna get the GoTY edition than go for it. I totally recommend the game. Especially with part two coming if I remember correctly if you have data from part 1 and then play part 2 I think you unlock a little something. Correct me if I'm wrong.
