Does anyone know exactly how the towel trick works? Its strange that heating it up would fix it. Just wondering.

wat it actually does is reheat the solder so that it reataches the solder back to the motherboard, or something like that

From what I've heard, when the solder is heated it will expand enough to reform any defective connections. After a while though, the solder will go back to it's original position, causing the system to break again.

I got mine to work for about 1 day of realtime, maybe 6-7 hours of playing time (long enough to finish Halo 3 campaign :D).

about 2 weeks except my friend had to do it twice. i mever had to do it.

i think it works by the solder gets lose from overheating then the motherboard gets lose. from doing the towel trick the 360 gets heat up the solder gets enough heat to stick again. then when it u let it cool down the solder sticks.

Me and my cousin did the towel trick, his 360 lasted like 2 minutes, then we did it again and forgot about it, left it under the towels for like an hour, when we came back, it was still on but it was dead silent, something fried on the inside.

I used it on my first 360's power brick... ( Got the Red Light of brick death.) i bought the 360 second hand, it was made in like. may 2005. so it lasted a while, i eventualy sold it for $70 no cables no hardrive no nothing. Anyways. The brick was red lighted and i used a towel on it. Kinda thinking "Hey, If it works on the RROD, It should work on this." Well yeah it did. on the day the guy was coming to pick up the old xbox. :( off to the store i went that night and bought an arcade.

Mine stopped working completely and I have a new one now. However I got it to work a good few weeks, just having to do it every day or other day just about sometimes more than once. I got the best out of it :P

Yeah, because red rings are scared of black consoles with un-necessarily large hard drives. =P

I used it for my 3rd console I had and it only worked for about 10 minutes before it crashed. I've heard it lasting for up 10 hours for some people. I guess it just depends on how badly cracked the solder is and how much of a connection is being made.
