help with xbox live...troubleshooting has done nothing

Setup: I just moved into my aparment and the internet was turned on today.Until tomorrow I only have one internet jack (tomorrow im setting upwireless)and use it for my laptop and xbox....only when I plug in my xboxthe connectiondoesnt work. I know nothing about networking btw. can anyone explain why my computers connection is fine but not the xbox's?

If you're running it through your computer/laptop you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) - check out the relevant details on the xbox website about connections and you will be able to get it sorted.

im not, thanks though, ive been all over xbox's website. my only problem with it is that ill plug in my laptop, it fine. ill simply switch the cable from my laptop to the xbox and it doesnt work. Im sure theres a reason for that, but i dont know it.
