First off, my definition of a hardcore game is one that is very difficult to master and takes a lot of practice to get good at. The people who do master these games could be considered hardcore gamers. This list is of games that i have personally played, so i'm expecting people to add on to this list.

-Gears of War

-Rock Band/Guitar Hero

-Mortal Kombat

-Call of Duty (quickscope?)

(these next few i haven't played, but understand their difficulty)

- Ninja Gaiden

-Devil May Cry

-Dark Souls

This is a bit off-topic, considering these are pc games, but i feel like they deserve a mention anyway

-Starcraft 1/2

-Company of Heroes

-Counter Strike

- Dota/League of legends/ Heroes of Newerth

Please feel free to add to this list, this is purely opinative on my part. Give input.

Call of Duty (ANY OF THEM) is in no way a "hardcore" game. Completing the campaign on Veteran is nothing but patience, and being good at multiplayer can usually be achieved by camping. Quick scoping isn't that hard to master, again, if you have the patience.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is the hardest game I've ever played. I never completed it, and found it to be the most frustrating game I've ever owned. To those who completed in on Master Ninja and 100% that games' achievements, congratz to you, you are a better gamer than me.

I find most fighters to be difficult, especially online play. But not Mortal Kombat. It took very little skill, and I could win most matches by spamming moves. The Street Fighter and Soul Calibur games on the other hand I find to be extremely difficult.

Oh yea, i forgot about the street fighter series. that probably beats mortal kombat by sheer difficulty of executing the moves. I haven't really played Soul Calibur so i can't really comment on it, bnd i do agree that Catherine is very difficult and frusterating.

The BlazBlue series, King of Fighters 13 (the shortest execution window in any game ever).

im sorry COD just cant be defined as a hardcore game anymore imo. just look at mw3, full of kids and everyone can get that support package and rack in kills. a more hardcore shooter by your definition would be halo since the controls are harder to master, and you need to work hard for a kill.

This may stir up a little confusion, but I find Civilisation Revolution to be very hard to master. There's quick-winning techniques, I just never manage to execute the turns properly haha. I guess to a certain extent, UFC. Some players have complete mastery of the clinching - which I'm still on amateur hour at :D

I also, maybe due to inexperience with the genre, find the JRPGs like Lost Odyssey to be pretty hard. Not Dark Souls hard, but still difficult. I'd be impressed if someone came to my house and defeated a boss first-time on Lost Odyssey anyway haha

Catherine is an awesome game and yes, it can be quite difficult depending on the level you are playing. It requires very quick decision thinking, and problem solving.:D
