The issue was never with the standard version. It's on the special edition's extra content disc that was getting scratched. Lenarius

incorrect......for most people it was the actual game disc that was getting scratched...

My bad then, a friend of mine got the collector's edition and the game disc was completely fine but the extra content disc was totally scratched up.
