Final Fantasy XIII please help if ur fan and know all

Im about to buy final fantasy 13 and it will be my first final fantasy game ever. My question is that do I need to play final fantasy 1-12 before playing 13? or they all are not related.

and also is there something i should understand or do in the game before getting it ?

There's no relation between 13 and the rest at all. You don't need to play the others to play 13.

All the storylines in every final fantasy are all different so you dont have to play one to understand another.

Since this is your first Final fantasy game ever. It might help to get the brady games guide to Final Fantasy 13. It might help you if you get stuck. As other people have said Final Fantasy games 1 - 14 are not related. But do have a learning curve to them. Get the Final Fantasy 13 guide since this is your first Final fastasy.

If you like Final Fantasy 13 on Xbox 360 there is only one other Final Fantasy game for Xbox 360 which is Final Fantasy 11. (An MMO)

open all the treasure spheres during your playthrough cause at one point you cannot go back to the beginning areas. but once you get to gran pulse you don't have to worry about it. you can keep returning to those areas and everything after it

this only if you care about completing everything though
