I just got an xbox 360 elite made in 2008 with a 175w power brick. The powerbrick does fit in the unit however there is discrepncy in the DC outputs. On the console it says 12V---16.5Amps but on the power brick it says DC output is 14.2Amps. From my understanding, to get amps you divide wattage by voltage. 175W/12V = 14.6A and 203W/12V = 17A. If i am going to power a 16.5A Xbox 360 wouldnt i need the 203W power brick and not the 175W?

Endgadget source:

203w psu will work with all xbox's. (16.5A, 14.2A, 12.1A)
175w psu will only work if it says 14.2A or 12.1A.
150w psu will only work if it says 12.1A

But if it fits in the system doesnt that mean it is the right one? I heard each console and power brick have 3 seperate fittings so if it was wrong psu it would not fit? Im so confused.

True. But even if it did turn on and operate, when the components begin to work harder they use up more power which it will not get because of the wrong PSU( if it is the wrong one), and I'm afraid i would not be able to tell if the performance was not optimal because i don't have another console to compare it too or enough experience with the system. Of course i will use the thing anyways and see how it goes.
