Apologies in advance if this question has been asked before (couldn't find a thread that relates to it) but does anybody know how much bandwidth my xbox 360 is likely to be taking up during online play (with say COD4) in terms of kb/s ?? I realise that this figure may vary with regardes to my broadband connection, but surely there must be a 'premium' connection speed the MS had intended the xbox to run at, and i was just interested to know if any of you know what that speed is ??

My dad is convinced i slow his online activities with my gaming, and it would be useful to know if this belief has any truth to it next time the subject arises..

Thanx.

Yes, the more units you have online at once can affect your internet performance, but having a 360 on is no different than having a PC online. Unless your father is gaming as well I can't imagine what he would be doing that it would cause a noticeable reduction in web browsing or downloading speed.

It all depends on what your upload speed is more than anything when you're talking about gaming. Sorry I don't have specific figures for you, but you could get them at http://www.speedtest.net/. Hope this helped.

You are only as fast as your upload. Your father may be seeing some speed changes but it is unlikely. Normally you will see the speed issues when he surfs the net or downloads email or so on. The 360 and PC both use maximum bandwidth possible all the time. That means if your father goes to a web page and the web page will download a 6mbps and that is your connection max it will do it at that speed. When surfing though it will download so fast you just have little bursts of lag as opposed to constant lag. Like I said before you are only as fast as your upload though. When you are gaming if you have a 384 kbps upload your connection to the server will use around the same amount down because it is a 2 way street. For xbox Live I would not want less than 384 kbps upload just to play on someones host. To host a game I would not want less than 768 kbps upload, depending on how many people you plan to host.

If your father is gaming on the PC then both of you are screwed.

Well my upload is usually around 300-400 so i guess that's okay as long as nobody else needs to do anything on-line whilst I'm gaming. Still, would probably have preferred a little room for maneuver. I think my dad is just looking for something to blame for the soul-crushingly bad website his company operate that he needs for working at home. My xbox is an easy target !!

Thanx anyway..
