hey guys ive had my 360 for a couple of weeks now.  I noticed something strange today when i shutoff the console.  All the lights go out but the power bar shows green and i can still hear that the 360 is on.  It doesnt matter if i turn it off from the controller or from the console.  Is it supposed to shut off like this?  I didnt notice this before, i dont remember a delay for a shutoff.  Should i be worried?

all I can think of is that maybe you have downloads going on.

I have this same problem with my Xbox 360 Elite. My other xbox has no prolems at all, it shuts off instantly.

I have tested my Elite with and without the hard-drive. So, it has nothing to do with downloading anything.

I have concluded that this has to be caused by hardware malfunction. There is no way of repair....only replacement of the main circuit board.

It happens to me when I have my wireless controller plugged so it can charge while I'm playing. I notice when it's still plugged I guess the 360 is still running or charging it when I turn it off, so make sure you have your wireless controller unplugged if it is.

If you have background downloads set to on then the 360 will take longer to shut down, even if you aren't downloading anything. Try switching background downloads off in the options.

Mine does that too sometimes. I think it does it when it needs to cool off before completely shutting down.

This is the problem...go into setup and change it or you'll end filling your hard drive with a lot of stuff you probably wouldn't have wanted in the 1st place.

Go into setup and change it so that YOU decide what you want to download.

While the whole active download thing makes sense, that's not it. This happens to me 1 out of every 8-10 times i shut down. I don't think it has anything to do with downloads, because I don't allow my system to download trial versions anymore.

Personally I think it has to do with the shutdowns the system has to do. Because he 360 is basically a computer, and think about how your computer shuts down systematically over a 5-10 second span... using a Microsoft operating system.

Just my theory, don't know for sure. But it makes the most sense. Why it doesn't do that identical shut down every single time.. now that's the real question.

My takes longer to shut off the longer I play...so I think it has something to do with it cooling itself down before a full shutdown.

I'm pretty sure it's a full system shutdown. It's nothing bad, it's just the 360 needing a few extra seconds to shutdown safely. I think it comes from it still computing, and it needs to end that process. I know that's how it is with the PS3.........

My 360 takes a while to shut down. I thought something was wrong with it at first but I realized it needs time to cool down.

um ... I have the march 2011 made elite and i had the same problem but mine was due to the background downloads and may be the cloud storage ... so i disabled both of those and now its fine ... it shuts down in a second or two.

and yeah it does not need time to cool off people ... the adapter has a built-in fan to keep it cool and as far as i know the console has two fans inside of it to keep it cool ... its probably the same with yours as mine ... give it a try... may be it'll work for you as-well. cheers :)

As the user above mentioned, and i'm pretty sure is right... it's the cloud saves. If you turn off your cloud saves it should shut down quicker. At least mine did, I then of course turned it back on because I realized it was no big deal.

the only reason this ever happen to me was

1: had play and charge kit hooked up the 360 before turning it of. I am not sure if the same thing happen if you have other stuff hooked up.

2: i had the setting for downloads on when i turn it off.
