I have a juicy monster gaming pc and have been using a very generic 60Hz Acer monitor, nothing wrong with it but I was thinking of upgrading since I don't need to upgrade anything else and I am kind of waiting out the next-gen console releases. Should I go for like a 27'' or 29'' monitor? If so what resolution should I be aiming for that's compatible with most games? Also should I go for that higher resolution or should I get a nice 24'' monitor with 120-144Hz and like 1ms response time, I know those things won't help and be as nice as a bigger monitor with a better resolution correct?

What do you guys think? Suggest?

vg248qe is the best gaming monitor 144hz is what you want There is no point buying an older gen 120hz panel, they have more input lag. I upgraded from my old vg236he 120hz panel and it's a noticeable improvement in the input lag department. The lightboost trick is stupid, don't do it. Fatal1ty and I have the same monitor and we both agree it sucks, same for zub.

lol

however when testing I averaged 12ms. The accurately measured value is going to be less, so we will have to wait for PRAD.de to properly illuminate us.

vg248qe has around 3-4ms of input total

from here regarding your monitor
http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/monitor-reviews-discussion/8220-samsung-s27a950d-review.html

also it's 120hz.

I get more than 120fps in all the games I play =) and can enjoy the extra 24 frames.
