looking around to get a cheap 2nd hand wii purely for super mario galaxy 1 & 2

    few questions

how easy are the games? also, for someone not used to wii controls, are they easy to get a hold of?

any other wii games that you recommend? ( only ones that arent motion based, or very little as my lounge room is small and i dont have the space to stand up and move about)

    thanks guys

The SMG games aren't tough to understand. The pointer will always be active, as you use the star cursor to collect star bits, and the spin attack of Mario's which is one of the most used moves in the game, will require a shake (wrist flick) of the Wii Remote or Nunchuk, depending on which one you want to use. Still, it's nothing you'll have to really think about after an hour or so into the game, and while you'll use the Wii Remote in other ways throughout the game, all of those actions are pretty easy to grasp.

It's tough for me to recommend other Wii games, not knowing your preferences, but games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart, or even the two Kirby games (Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland) are solid choices that come off the top of my head that don't rely too much on motion controls. There are others, but I'd like to see what you enjoy first.

    thanks for the reply

umm , well i am an old school nintendo gamer from nes/snes days. Goldeneye or Diddy Kong Racing  on n64 were the last nintendo games i got

oh apart from some ds stuff

i like platformers, rpg, fighting, action, pretty much everything... the only thing, i have a pretty small tolerance for games.. so id rather say get 5 KILLER titles and thats it.. than get 20 pretty good gamess. Hence why i thought i would mainly get the 2 Galaxy games
im open to look into anything you recommend tho

Buying a Wii just for Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2?

I would 100% recommend this, and I almost never say that. Easily two of the greatest games ever made and worth the price of a Wii alone. The games are accommodating in difficulty to all players, meaning they give you fairly basic levels at first and then have this amazing difficulty curve that will make you feel awesome when you get some of the trickier levels.

There are plenty of other Wii games I'd recommend, but don't even bother - just buy these two masterpieces and set forth.

Also, pro-tip, if you don't like the first Galaxy due to its more open levels, don't quit on the second (or the first for that matter); SMG2 is a lot different in level execution in some levels.

Enjoy, and if you have any questions feel free to ask on this forum!

Waiting for Grand Theft Auto V? Buy this in the meanwhile.

    ^^^ thanks!

Actually i got a Wii free with my laptop in 08, then got wii fit, mario kart and smash bros melee but the gf at the time never used it so it got boxed away. i checked the other day and think ive thrown it out

i wouldnt spend much, but super mario galaxy seems like the kind of game i want to play at this point, so i think its worth finding a 2nd hand one in good knick just for those 2 games...any others i get will be a bonus

will still probably cost less than one new release game for ps3/xbox/pc

    ^^^ thanks!

5 "KILLER" titles, huh? Honestly, your safest and best bet would probably be staying close to home with Nintendo's games if that's the case. Metroid Prime 3 (or Metroid Prime Trilogy, if you can find it at a fair price somehow) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (which you may want to get a more traditional controller for), along with the SMG games are pretty much the definitive "must-have" games on the system. Building a healthy Wii collection requires a fairly open mind, but since your intentions are more focused on quality than quantity, it's hard to recommend another game beyond those four. I could come up with a few more solid games that may fit your bill, but most of them aren't quite at the level of these four, and the ones that are may not be quite your preference.

If you ever get the desire to really expand your Wii lineup, I'm sure you'll run into some games that'll interest you and your tastes. When it comes to overall quality and value, you already have the two ideal Wii games to serve your interests.
