I finally gave up on my old mouse that was terrible and bought a deathadder. To celebrate I want to play a good shooter from the last 5-6 years. I used to play this type of game to death so I have pretty much everything notable from Doom until Painkilller. Notable ones I have from the last few yearss are Cryostasis, Deus Ex 3, Hard Reset, New Vegas (more of an RPG but w/e), Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1 + 2 (didn't like them enough to get 3), Metro, Saints Row 3 , Serious Sam First Encounter, Second Enounter and 3, TF2, E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy, Zeno Clash, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

Right now I'm looking at Far Cry 3 or Spec Ops: The Line with the Bioshock: Infinite Preorder (which I really hope doesn't suck since I love System Shock 2 so much).

You should hope for more of Bioshock 1 and 2 and not System Shock 2, if you plan on preordering.  While being a 'spiritual successfor', imo the gameplay is hardly comparable

    i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz | Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870 1GB | Patriot Viper Xtreme 2X4GB DDR3 1866MHZ | ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 | Corsair Professional HX750W Fully Modular

Don't know about FC 3, but I can tell you Spec Ops is an incredibly average game, good art, bad gameplay and pretty bad story, I don't know why it gets so much praise for its story, because all it does is to gather up all your extremely common and cheap blockbuster twists (as you know, they don't have twists, they're too predictable), the only really good thing I can say about it is the end before the credits (since it has a pretty terrible excuse for an ending after the credits), those were some great cutscenes with a great atmosphere, kinda like AC 3 which only has to offer the intro (not the actual gameplay, the same, just the Desmond cutscenes).

I liked the original quite a bit, it just fell short on difficulty, story (it ripped straight off Shock 2, even the twist) and the plasmid gunplay. What I like about Shock 2 so much is how it was difficult throughout and there was an incentive to replay because of the different playstyles.

That is really sad to hear, I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but was hoping to get something that was worth a playthrough and didn't have a completely terrible story. To change the question a bit, how about the Darkness 2? If that sucks too I guess I just play the waiting game and hope the Steam one hits the Xcom milestone before release and just grab Farcry 3 now.

I honestly think that Bioshock Infinate will be a good bet (I were not too thrilled about Bioshock 1, bu I have hopes, and sofar infinate looks quite good from what weve seen, felt Bioshock 1 felt "flat" this one is hopefully more vibrant)

However If you have spare cash to pay I would suggest that you look at NS2 if you want an MP shooter (sorry cant remember if you playied games online, or if it were sp only).

At Far Cry 3, I would say this: The games first 2/3 of the game is REALLY good, but then it kind of hits a wall, Have'nt finished it. It is hard to say what started to turn me off about it, but you might not hit the same wall, and the first many hours were worth it without a doubt ^^

Vote for GameSpot in the Webbys!

Trust me when I say you should trust the opinion of one forum user over the many people who have praised Spec Ops.

Gameplay wise it isn't anything amazing, but the writing and presentation are unique in a genre oversaturated with cliches. It does a lot of things differently and is a great deconstruction of the gaming medium as a whole, with a lot of subtle touches many people won't understand. With Far Cry 3 I'd say it's a steal considering Far Cry 3 is one of the best games of last year, trust me when I say it's damn addicting and incredibly huge.

By comparison, The Darkness II is not worth getting. It's derivative, short, and doesn't live up to the stellar story of the original without any interesting gameplay, I got it for $15 on Amazon and I had to force myself to finish it. I did beat the first game several times, but The Darkness II just tries too hard to recreate the tone of the first.

Far Cry 3 is a great game, and surprised me by becoming one of my favourite FPS games of the past few years.  Don't know about the multiplayer, but the single player campaign was great, and I sunk more than 60 hours into it (according to Steam, anyway).

You didn't mention Singularity among the games you played.  I have to say that I really enjoyed that game as well - and enjoyed it far more than games like RAGE.  A solid shooter with some interesting time-shifting mechanics.

Bioshock Infinite is looking really good, so I hope that delivers.  And don't forget that Metro Last Light is supposed to come out this year if you enjoyed Metro 2033.

You see every single twist Spec Ops might have from the intro of the game, you're making it sound like some philosophical masterpiece when it's in fact something that even Michael Bay wouldn't pull in a movie, "smart" twists are those made in Shutter Island not every single (since you mentioned) cliche ever invented put in the form of a single game and passed off as something deep complex that few understand, so few that almost all (not the general, huge misinformation there) its players said it was not average, but terrible.

It's you opinion and you're right that nobody should make decisions based on one opinion, but let's get real with this here, we're not in the presence of great games with life changing deep stories, obsession of war isn't deep nor interesting or surprising.
