That iPad GPU is pretty friggin impressive still. Not wholly surprised by the results, though I expected it to be closer to 2x faster than current hardware.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

The Quadrant score is a nice leap, despite the device running Android.
GLBenchmark 2.5 is rather outdated, it takes advantage of OpenGL ES 2.0.
The next version, GLBenchmark 3.0 takes advantage of OpenGL ES 3.0, something the SGX5xx series doesn't have.

Wow thats nice, maybe this will be nvidia's first year at the high end of mobile graphics. Ipad 4 is just 3 months old so this is impressive achievement to beat it.
And then the new iPad comes around the same time frame and smashes Tegra 4. As expected.
Yes, and no.
The next iPad's CPU is likely to be a quad core version of Apple's custom core, which is not at the level of Cortex A15.
As for GPU performance we could expect Apple to use the PowerVR 6 series. From what I've heard the mid-range 6 series is less powerful than the iPad 4's 5 series GPU, but has the addition of newer API support, such as OpenGL ES 3.0. Apple would have to resort to the top of the line 6 series in order to "smash" Tegra 4. The other problem is Tegra generally gets additional features in games that take advantage of the hardware, so even if the 6 series has a higher performance, it may not be able to match Tegra 4 for real world applications.
Of course Intel's x86 Bay Trail will be out at the end of this year with an all new quad core CPU architecture and an Ivy Bridge based GPU (no more PowerVR). So all of these new SoC's might seem rather trivial. And we can't forget about AMD...

Just another thing to make a point of, this unit is likely using pre-production silicon, so expect higher results in a consumer product.

Thus far, every single version of Tegra that was revealed in the past half decade was touted as killer material based off of comparisons to previous tech, and each and every release of an Apple device in the same time-frame to counter Tegra has effectively sharted all over it.
This won't be an exception. Believe me. With Apple's 200+ billion dollars to throw in competitors faces, there's absolutely no reason why they won't do it for the fourth time.
Remember how excited everyone got with Tegra 2? "No way can Apple release anything better." What happened there? It didn't just incrementally beat it, it pretty much named it Debbie and slapped her silly. Remember Tegra 3? That was the most laughable instance of fandroid hype being deflated by Apple's tenacious path of destroying competition in terms of benchmarks.
Tegra 4 couldn't have come to hype itself at a worse time, with Cook showing less restriction than Jobs and with Ive now heading more departments in both hardware and software.
Don't get too excited. Because I'll be back in this thread when the new iPad releases to rub it in your faces with no restraint.
Ok, in light of your apparent taking of offense, allow me to rephrase. Remember how excited everyone got with Tegra 2? "No way can Apple release anything better." What happened there? It didn't just incrementally beat it, it pretty much called it NVIDIATI and said "You're wrong. In your face." More acceptable?- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
- Feb 27, 2013 12:44 am GMTI'm guessing Samsung will crush it again and Qualcomn will have a much better cpu...lest they have dual channel memory this year, plus I don't see why nvidia doesn't use unified shaders while the adreno does.

Computer running slow? Speed it up!
Once android gets more/better tablet apps I'd love a 7.7-8inch tegra 4 tablet.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
