Scared to buy PS3 games due to PS4
- Feb 12, 2013 7:36 am GMTOkay this may be strange but hear me out. i have a wish list of games coming out this year but Im afraid to buy them. The issue is that with the new Ps4 we dont know anything but its been speculated that the PS4 will not be backwards compatible. i have a case of games that i feel like will be a waste of hard earned money if I purchase a PS4. Does anyone else have this running through their heads?

Then spend a couple years playing the amazing library on the PS3, and when the price drops for the PS4, you'll have an actual idea of what the library looks like then can invest in it if you wish to.

Pretty sure the Ps4 and 720 will be BC, at least initially.

you should, i don't think i can afford a PS4 at launch anyways. You should enjoy the PS3 library and worry about the PS4 later, unless you want to buy it at launch

Most prob it wont be backward compatible with PS3 games, they need to sell the new game for PS4.

I have signatures turned off for a reason....
And what? You plan on throwing away your PS3 as soon as you get a PS4 or something? PS4 is likely going to be overpriced for about the first year or two that it's out. Also, It'll likely be just like all the past ones, where it has no real library to make it a worth wild purchase for those first 2 years. Plus, where's the logic of buying a PS4 to play PS3 games?- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

Don't buy the PS4 straight away and continue playing your backlog of games maybe?

If you intend on getting a Playstation 4 right at launch. Then start saving. I intend to. $400.00 - $425.00 for the PS4 console. Plus 59.99 for a game. $500.00 at least.
As for Playstation 4 being backward compatible with PS3 games, or PS2 even PS1. I think Sony will not offer B/C at all with the Playstation 4.
So if there are Some PS3 games you want to play buy them. Unless money is tight. then save up for PS4.
But Sony will support the PS3 for at least another 4 years. Plus the games library for Playstation 4 will take time to grow. In the meantime you can enjoy PS3 and PS3 games.
I would like one last full backwards compatible console from Sony. The Playstation 4 that plays PS3,PS2,PS1 games and PS4 games.
But Sony has given up on B/C. So PS4 will not have it. As much as I would like it. Not going happen. So enjoy PS3 and when PS4 arrives enjoy that as well. No need to be scared.

- Feb 12, 2013 9:50 am GMTI really don't agree with you. The great games coming out this year are the pinnacle of PS3 tech and won't be available on the PS4. The only way to play them is to get them on PS3. Just because PS4 comes out doesn't make the PS3 irrelevant. It has tons of great content and I think The Last of Us and God of War: Ascension alone are enough to buy a PS3 this late in the game.

Hearing that the PS4 will soon be coming out is GREAT NEWS to me. Why?
1. In like 2 years when I am ready to buy, the PS4 will probably be a more reliable slim PS4, be much cheaper and have a great large library. Those great launch-1st year ps4 games will also be cheaper by then. Save a lot of money there!
2. I already have a huge ps3 backlog of games that will keep me plenty of busy for long time. Great ps3 games are still great games. Play those before even thinking buying a PS4 and more PS4 games. Just because PS4 games are out that doesn't mean that they are automatically better than ps3 games.
I am actually hoping that the PS4 comes out sooner. I heard that the PS4 may come out after the next xbox and I don't like that.

As a gamer, I would love that the ps4 be backward compatible.
As a Sony business man, they are thinking about the profits that the PS3 could still make for many years. Look how many PS2s were being sold all those years especially after the slim ps3 came out. I think Sony is thinking about keeping their PS3 system alive and selling for a few years so they won't make the PS4 backwards compatible. They will say that it is impossible to make it backwards compatible.
Plus, look at the PSN selling "ps2 classics".... Extra dough for Sony! We will see "PS3 classics" selling overpriced in a couple years on PSN.

I don't think anyone buys a new console just to play old games. Rather, some people want to just have 1 system to play all of their PlayStation games. Plus, it's not like PS3's are built to last for a long time.

If you have a PS3, and a library, why get rid of it just because there's a new one out??? The money is spent, and trade-in will only rip you off... I still have my Dreamcast, I still buy games for it when I run across them and I still enjoy them just as much as I did in the (late) 1990s, where's the need to jump ship??? I don't get it. I have all of my old consoles. NGC, Xbox, PS2... Why get rid of them, if this is a hobby you really enjoy? I don;t have a B/C PS3, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a PS2 game...
Just my feeling on the matter. Do as you like.

Why believe that the PS3 won't last long? I think if you take care and clean your PS3 or any electronic device, it will last a very long time. Do people vacuum their vents? Keep it in open space? My PS3 is still running great. My fat PS2 is like 11 years old and is running fine. Another tip is that I don't use my ps3 as my bluray player where it puts all those extra hours of wear and tear. I watch too many hours of dvds/bluray so I don't want all that extra wear and tear on ps3.

Get a PS3 and forget about a PS4 for a few years.

Now Playing-DOTA 2, Bioshock Infinite, Assassin's Creed Liberation.
I don't even get the logic of TC's post...
You want to play certain PS3 games, but you hear PS4 won't have BC so you don't want to buy its predecessor ie. the ONLY option for you to play PS3 games if the rumours turn out to be true?
So you're saying you want to stock up on PS3 games, without a PS3 console, and wait for the PS4 to come out to play them?! If PS4 gets announced on the 20th the earliest it would land on the market would be holidays 2013, which is still a whopping 10 months away.

I play a lot of Gran Turismo. Shoot me a friend request if you're down. Just say you're from Gamespot.

Your solution is simply. If there's no backwards compatibility, the likelyhood that Sony will use Gakai to stream PS3 games to the PS4 is in my opinion HIGHLY likely. So if you're still down to play those games, I'm sure you'll be able to do so provided that you buy them digitally.
