Xbox 360 connection problems.

When switch my xbox on as soon as the dashboard appears I get a notification saying 'Disconnected from xbox live' and from the dashboard it takes multipul attempts of connection to reconnect. If I start a game up however the xbox connects instantly. While disconected from xbox live if I test my network connection it says everything is fine but still wont let me connect.
Any solutions? Thanks

Are you using a wireless or wired connection? Either way the first thing I would try is resetting your modem.
