I think a lot of the older Pokemon games still hold up pretty well, as the gameplay is essentially unchanged from the newer ones.

You seriously think the gameplay of the original Tomb Raider holds up nowadays? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the series, played all games and loved every single moment of it (minus certain ragequits ) but damn, anything from Angel of Darkness-back has poor controls to todays standards. For my Tomb Raider fix I love playing Legend and Anniversary, only play the others for nostalgia purposes. Can't wait for the new game though.
yeah, I still like the original Tomb Raider, but its mostly because of what it stands for then the actual game

I think that turn-based RPGs tend to hold up well in general because they are not hampered by bad controls for the most part. Not to say some of them don't have control issues, but those control issues don't hurt the experience as much as it would in a platformer, hack and slash, shooter, etc.

Yeah, I agree. Expect for the ones on NES from what I hear. At least Final Fantasy 1 & 2. Mainly due to how punishing they are with limited save points and ways to heal.

But most games on NES, SNES, and Genesis haven't been hindered by age I find. It's the early days of the 3D era, N64 and PS1, that doesn't seem to hold up well I find. But there are some that are still great today.

    Like the turn based rpg's.

    Parasite Eve

    Both Zelda games

    Super Mario 64

    Star Fox 64

And of course any 2D game on the systems, like Castlevania Symphany of the Night

There are probably others too that I haven't thought of.

I know i basically copped-out earlier by saying all the best games on each platform withstand the tests of time. But i still want to say:

    Turrican 2 (1991)

    Cannon Fodder (1993)

    Unreal Tournament (1999)

N-Gen Racing (2000) - 13 years on and there is STILL nothing like it.

My personal favorite that has held up through the years is Rush 2 for the N64. It's a great racing title.

The racing games on N64 still hold up well.  Duke Nukem Zero Hour is still good, but having no checkpoints does kill the game a bit.  Most 2D sidscrolling games hold up well besides beat em ups.  Platformers in general hold up better than most other genres.

Out of all the games I've played, I'd say alot of the N64 games hold up well. In particular, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye 007, and Super Mario 64.

I did it! Master of Science degree in Mathematics! Score!!

Grandia looks and plays well considering that it is a PlayStation 1 game.

This is true. 2D graphics age gracefully.

I would be a fool to suggest that any SNES or Genesis game holds up to today's standards in terms of gameplay; several don't.  Many RPG's save for Chrono Trigger because it's so unique immediately spring to mind.

    Here's a short list:

    -Doom II

    -Super Mario World

    -Tetris

    -Super Mario Brothers

    -Duke Nukem 3D

    -Goldeneye

-Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

    -Double Dragon (Arcade and NES)

    -The Guardian Legend

    -Super Street Fighter II

    -The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

    -Brawl Brothers

    -The Peace Keepers

    -Syndicate (DOS-PC, SNES)

    -Donkey Kong Country

    -Battle Chess

    -Diablo II

    -Metal Gear Solid

    -Castlevania III

-Contra, Super C and Contra III

    -Samurai Shodown II

    -Smash TV

    -Ghost Recon

    -Blood

    -Rygar (NES)

I'm going to stop there for now.  Lists don't mean much without discussion and such.

Conker's Bad Fur Day, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Silent Bomber, and there's plenty of others I can think of but that's all I'm going to list.

Hell yeah, the only one I can argue that hasn't aged well is Star Fox, but that's because it's pseudo-3D.

Now Playing: Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS)

Now Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Obligatory Megaman X4 post. Can beat it in less than 100 minutes lol. Took me months to beat it the first time as a kid. Stuck on Jet Stringray and Slash Beast for ages before I finally decoded the pattern/move of choice for Zero. X followed soon after, when I discovered the option of armor parts. No guides whatsoever.
