I have a 250 Watt PSU (I'm not a PC gamer) and I want to get a quad core that requires 125W. IS that enough or do I need a new PSU?

Does your mother board support the C.P.U. socket? Is your motherboard AM3/ LG1155 or whatever? And I doubt that a 250 watt P.S.U. is good enough to P.C. game anymore. Do you have a video card? A 250 watt Power supply usually comes with only older computers who have out dated other parts.

If you have a decent AM3 C.P.U., you would be better off getting a good P.S.U. plus a video card.

I don't think it will work. My sister has an microATX AM3 mobo and had a 300W PSU, and she just got a PIIx4 965 BE. Right after the boot screen it would flash into colors. After upgrading a little to a 500W, everything worked just fine. To be clear, she had only 2x2 sticks of 1333 ram, no gpu, and an old IDE HDD. Even I thought at first that the 300W PSU could support the 125W chip, but no (we were upgrading an *old* Emerex prebuilt lol).
