Hey everyone, I'm in high school and I'm looking for a very nice durable set of over/on ear headphones that are both stylish and are non-biased when it comes to specific music genres. My friends all tell me that the Beats by Dre are the best out there and i should get those, but i hear from others that they are absolute crap. I've been looking around and i like the Beats Mixr, the Soul by Ludacris sl100 and sl150. I am open to any thoughts and opinions. I want a really good set of headphones but not run the risk of being made fun of because they are not Beats brand. I listen to a mixed variety of music including a lot of country, old rock (def leppard, foreigner, ect), some rap, and the latest hits. Anything that you guys know will last a long time but still has a limited warrenty would be great. Thank You!!

The best products rarely include "by famousperson" in the name.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 is superior in every way to Beats by Dre.

Don't get the M50, overhyped. People on Head-Fi have come to this conclusion. Maybe the Sennheiser HD25: extremely comfortable(for me atleast) and sound great. Another recommendation would be the Beyerdynamic DT770 and the Denon D2000(I doubt you'll find these as there out of production, but if you can, your in huge luck). Then the AKG K167, I can comment on Monday if your still thinking about headphones(just PM me on Monday) as I will be receiving these and can comment on them.

    ^pro 900 or dj1 ultrasone.

If you are really worried by the cookie cutter taste of your HS-mates making fun of you than by all means get the beats. Kids at that age just don't have wits to know what is actually good or fools gold ala hyped beats. Though if you get the audiophile brands at least you have less chance of getting the thing stolen.

I remember this kid that was wearing the Dre headsets... he was like "Man, these are the best headphones ever, just listen to them..." His smugness was amazing. In reality, do your research. You can get headphones just as good for a much lower price.

Thank you all for your thoughts, I've at the M50s a bit and i do like them. One other preference i do have is a control talk cable for my ipod. I also looked at the Tim McGraw headphones by JBL. Anyone know if its a good brand?

I personally have a pair of SE215 Shure Earbuds. They're a hundred bucks and the sound quality is absolutely amazing. As with any high end pair of earbuds, there's some maintanance required and you have to treat them well, but trust me, it's completely worth what little upkeep is required. Pop em in and you won't hear a thing but your music in beautifully high fidelity.

Oops, missed the part where you said over ear. Well, based purely on my experience with the Shure earbuds, you might wanna check out their headphones too.
