Hello there, first time PC builder here,

I have 128GB SSD alont with 1TB HDD.

I am going to use this SSD as a boot drive, and HDD as storage.

So here is some questions regarding this if you guys can help me out.

    1) So I know that I have to go into my Bios and set my SSD as the primary drive. By doing this, does the PC automatically detect the HDD as a storage drive?

    2) I've read that I have to disconnect the HDD when installing Windows to SSD, is that true? If not, when do I have to disconnect the HDD?

    3) AHCI vs IDE, is this related to the drives? I have no idea what they are and trying to figure out as people always tell me to switch to AHCI instead of IDE.

Thanks a lot for the help!

    2) you don't have to remove the HDD if you have windows 7, if you have an older version of windows you might need to.

i've had a few problems with older versions of windows when installing a new drive with an existing drive that had a previous install of windows on it. those issues went away with installing 7. the most trivial but also fairly annoying was that the new boot drive was not labelled C: but a different letter.
