In Mass Effect 2 you pretty much had to go all the way Paragon or all out Renegade, otherwise you might miss out on some story options. Is it the same for Mass Effect 3? Will I miss out on some stuff if I do a little of both?

Also, will I have to add parts to the ship or anything like that to make sure I don't miss out something, like saving my crew?

    Many thanks.

The "building up" process in ME2 was mostly Loyalty missions and upgrading the ship.

In ME3, the "building up" process is concentrated on gathering forces and fleets for the war effort against the Reapers. You'll have to make decisions that involve politics among the races and you also may even end up sacrificing one entire race to gain the support of another.

I did it! Master of Science degree in Mathematics! Score!!

I don't think it matters that much in ME3. It only changes some of the dialog options in ME3. No matter which path you picked you could still pick any one of the endings in ME3. In ME2 if you weren't full Paragon, or full Renegade, or darn close to it, you could loose certain crew members loyalty, and possibly end up killing off people at the end of the game.

It matters a great deal actually. Not only does it effect how the story plays out, but it even blocks out some dialoge options. These choices will carry over to ME3.

Yes it does but not as much as it did in ME2. You may want to be more of one than the other because if you decise to go 50/50 you may miss out on a few things.

Not at all. The only thing you will need is to obtain as many war assets as possible to ensure the best outcome.
