... and they love it.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-05-the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-dragonborn-review

Netch.jpg

"This isn't DLC. This is an expansion, like in the good old days. It's an entirely new area, a blank map waiting to be filled in as you roam, packed with new quests, miscellaneous tasks, dungeons, barrows, ruins and crypts. It's an absolute beast, with a main storyline that lasts a good few hours and enough supporting content to keep you playing for weeks more."

-

"Any game that demands hundreds of hours from the player must build a long-term relationship, and relationships must remain fresh if they're to endure. With discoveries around every corner, Dragonborn just gave Skyrim fans the perfect excuse to lose themselves in the wild for another winter." 9

Now the long wait for 2013 for it to release on PC. :[

But it's Skyrim. Therefore it can only be as good as Skyrim. Therefore it's stupid.

Yes. There are some devs who abuse DLC but overall DLC is good. Especially since we have 9hour games out on the market.

Traditionally they release at the same time.

Those creatures were in Morrowind

At least something similar to them

So it would be more accurate to say it's the other way around

Why should I pay extra to get little bits of stuff? They all should be in the original game in the first place! Pay once and that's it!

Expansion packs are quite good, although some can be bad. This one, however, looks solid.

For day one DLC and locked content I agree.

But this releases over a year after Skyrim. They started working on it AFTER Skyrim. It's an expansion. You don't have to buy it. But it's like questioning why Blizzard makes WoW expansions. People want to play in the world and the game is being expanded for those players.

There are some shady DLC practices out there to be certain. But painting ALL DLC with the same brush, and especially unfounded conspiracies of "... was removed on purpose, should have been there already" is more often the whiny cries of self entitled brats, who never want to pay for anything.

Your way of saying that you were wrong by dismissing the DLC at the start of the thread?

Exactly, there's plenty of unwarranted DLC hate out there. As you said, there definitely are some who go crazy with the DLC schemes and make it look like the content was cut away on purpose before the release, but still, there are developers who are capable of delivering high quality DLC keeping you invested for more in an already great game...

As for Dragonborn:

Just started playing Skyrim seriously for the first time yesterday!

Been avoiding playing that game for a year somehow, but now it's heavily modded, and in action. Will see how I like it after some more play hours, as I only reached Riverwood and completed two or three quests. Then I'll decide if I wish to spend money on the DLC, and expand the experience...

For Skyrim it is. Great long game to begin with and now they take the time to add more quality to it. I would say DLC is great in this case.
