Hey there, My PS3 is always on 1080p when I'm on the menu. My games all play in 720p though. Assasin's Creed 3 though switches to 1080p for a second, then goes down to 720p. Normally my other games go immediately to 720p but this doesn't. Now, that is fine though. I have another game however that I recently installed, and that is Metal Gear Solid 4.
This game goes to 1080p but stays that way. How do I make it go down to 720p without affecting my PS3 Menu output. The reason I ask is because over a long period of time, when switched back to 1080p, my TV screen sometimes flickers and whatnot. 720p games Never ever do this. I still want to keep the menu 1080p though since if my TV starts off with 1080p then it's fine. Lol I don't understand why this happens, but whatever.
Anyway yeah, so how can I make all my games play in 720p only, but allow my PS3 Menu to remain in 1080p? Thanks

just set the menu screen to 720p and be done with it...who cares if the menu is 720p or 1080p..cant see the difference.

i think if your tv has the option to change the resolution you can do that with your remote control..if you want to do it your way. but i dont think there is an option on ps3 to do it.

Ah ok that sucks. Thanks. I guess the reason is because like I said, 720p never has any problems, but, I fear that if I turn off the option for 1080p, then the 720p will end up doing what the 1080p does over a period of time. By the way, maybe about an hour, so, not very long. Im probably just worrying about nothing. Anyway thanks, hopefully they add this feature because it seems for Sony it would take like 5 seconds to add that in a patch.

I don't think it is something Sony will ever patch because it sounds like it's something wrong with your TV.

They already give people the option to choose 1080p or 720p, or "automatic" settings. I dont think many people would demand to have 1080p menu but then FORCE 720p for games... even if the game supports 1080p. That makes no sense. Not too many game support 1080p anyway, so it's actually a pretty rare occurance. It sounds like your best bet is to just set it as 720p full time, and just give up the 1080p menu. Since it's pretty rare that a game actually supports 1080p, you can set it to 720p while you are playing a specific game you are concerned about (like MGS 4), then when you are back to normal gaming just set it back to "automatic" settings to regain your 1080p menu.

Well some people prefer to play certain games in 720p, while others in 1080p. I prefer my menu being in 1080p while making my games 720p. I mean, again it doesn't seem to difficult to patch, but obviously talking about it here won't make it happen lol. Just preference really. Thanks anyway

very few games are in 1080p most are in native 720p using some sort of upscaling to appear 1080p, real ones are Fifa street 3, Sacred 2, Virtua tennis 3, Marvel ultimate alliance 1, Echochrome, High velocity bowling, Gran turismo 5, Wipeout, MLB11 the show and maybe a few others but not that much (check the game box)

I don't know, sounds strange to me. My HD TV is 1080P and if the game is 1080P it will stay in it, some games are only 720P however. Though that's not a really a bad thing at all, lot's of games are in 720P and look amazing like Uncharted (graphics king) etc....

I suggest checking your TV settings.
