The price of everything would inflate in order to adjust to the rise in income. Initially, however, unemployment would skyrocket, because small business owners would no longer be able to afford the massive increase in the payroll, necessarily leading to many lost jobs. Do you have any idea how much small business owners worry about paying overtime? More than doubling the federal minimum wage would cripple many small businesses in the short term.

Inflation, inflation everywhere. Not to mention the unemployment of millions and the closure of thousands of businesses.

Such a drastic change works in fantasy land, nowhere else.

There has already been inflation, it's called technology, gas and pretty much anything that people can't really skip out on (everyday living). I remember when I first got a cell phone back in 2003, my cell bill was $34, now it's $93. Businesses see that some things we can't skip out on like gas, cars, cell phones,tv,internet ect ect cause we need those things (supply and demand).

Ever heard the saying "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer", that's more than a saying.

Enjoy a massive spike in unemployment rate. The government may be able to impose a minimum wage, but the government cannot force employers to maintain the same hiring policies.

Stop putting words in people's mouths...
Anyone who's got any knowledge of economics knows that if you dramatically increase the minimum hourly wages, you end up with dramatically higher costs of living.
I think it just went over your head.

LOL, every minimum wage job would cease to exist and they'd all go to China.

    Absolutely effing brilliant.

Yeah all those minimum wage service jobs will go to China. Makes sense.

(by the way I disagree with raising the minimum wage but your reasoning here is bad)

Not all jobs would go to China. There is no way anyone could order fast food and get it while it is still microwaved warm. That is the beauty of this plan, it would close down all those fast food joints that many users here complain about contributing to the obesity of the US.

Because you're an idiot. If you had even a rudimentary understanding of economics you would see that a $20 minimum wage isn't feasible and would cause more harm than good.

It can't be amazing because it wouldn't do any good, moron. This is where your lack of understanding comes into play.

No, it should be $10,000 per hour. Then everyone would be rich. It would have no affect on the cost of living BTW because labor costs don't impact prices at all, especially not for small businesses. And people should get free healthcare too. Everyone knows that giving away free products and services is infinitely sustainable and has no negative consequences.
