I agree. The government should force more regulations on the economy and businesses in order to help them. We all need to think of a higher moral purpose for society, rather than just greed. Everyone needs equal opportunity to succeed and share in society's benefits.

    Details? I love Russ Roberts

He's p. cool. Was into the podcast well before the Boom and Bust vids.

It shook me up a bit, which doesn't ever happen. Listen to it. It covers, in essence, how we arrive to conclusions and how that doesn't always work.

I realized that I had a pretty strong bias towards the libertarian position on p. much errything and had a tendency towards creating and accepting justifications/argumentation/data collecting/analyses that worked towards my predispositions - basically the stuff he talked about.

Was he directing it toward the libertarian perspective or just predispositions and bias in general? There is a recent Econ talk podcast on healthcare and big pharmacy. I can't wait to listen to it.

The episode was geared towards predispositions and bias in general, which is why I highly reccomend that one in particular. I don't listen to it as much as I used to b/c no mp3 player w/ free time @ work. Used to load trucks listening to that sh!t. Good times.

Yeah I did, what makes you ask though? o_O
Please elaborate on levitt. What was class like with him? Which class was it? At u of Chicago?

Economics of Crime at UChicago. His class was really fun, basically he just went through a lot of different aspects of crime (with one of the motivating factors being the sharp rises and declines in crime in the past few decades). Nothing in too great detail he went more for covering a lot of topics at a not-too-quick pace, so the class wasn't all that rigorous, but it was fun.

Something you all probably don't know is that him and Clint Eastwood fended off an attack from robot
ninjas and saved OT. Thanks Chessmaster! (And Clint Eastwood ) - DJ-Lafleur
That's all well and good in practice, but how does it work in theory?

What is said about it? The 1% are making millions of dollars a year. Is it too much to ask to increase the minimum wage above sustainace levels? We could raise taxes on the ultra wealthy and use that revenue to pay for a minimum wage increase subsidized by the government.

That's awesome. How big was the class? Did you have an opportunity to have any one on one conversations with him? You're very lucky to be going to the u if Chicago to study economics. I'm jealous. Are you originally from Illinois?

The one with Milton Friedman regarding money got me hooked on it initially some years back. Taleb/Black Swan episode was cool too iirc.

God damn it's been a while.

I know this is supposed to be satire or trolling or whatever, but it's actually not an awful idea if you did it as a tax on retained earnings instead of personal income.

I didn't think you had the intellectual capability to get accepted into a school like that. One of my cousins goes there and she's extremely gifted.

Yeah I highly recommend it. I can't think of any specific one to recommend off the top of my head but know that some are better than the others depending on the quality of the guest. I'd recommend just picking a few that cover topics that interest you.
