Do you think it'd be necessary for the top and/or the touch screen? Don't want to scratch it, but it's so hard to stick a protector/film without the bubbles left in..

    thanks

The screen doesn't need a protective film. Just don't jam the stylus into the screen too hard. Use minimum effective pressure

The top screen is protected when the 3DS is closed so that isn't a problem either.

Keep something between the screens like a bit of lint free cloth. The screens are protected because of the glamshell design but if little bits of dirt get in there, it acts as an abbrassive and the bottom screen will scratch the top screen. (This doesn't happen on a regular DS because the screens are the same size.)

Yes you do need a screen protector

The 3DS has a defect where the screen actually get marked just by keeping the device closed.

Grab a set of Hori protectors and have a worry free experience.

Not unless you're insanely careless or have a launch 3DS with the small bumper problem (and even then it should be fine unless you constantly compress the handheld as with that silly and tight executive case).

Also make sure your stylus tip is clean and not damaged, I think a lot of the reported scratches come from people who have a plastic razor instead of a stylus.

Unless carrying it in your pocket counts as insanely careless, I disagree. Dirt or dust gets inbetween the screens and acts as an abbrassive which causes the frame of the bottom screen to scratch the top screen. It is improved by larger bumpers in most 3DSs and by the greater space between the screen on the XL but not fixed 100% on either, which I found out the hard way. If you carry your 3DS in your pocket, it's best to either get screen protectors or just put a piece of soft fabric in between.

If I do use a protector, I guess it's a film to be sticked on to the screen? I usually try to avoid those because it's so easy to have bubbles. Do you regularly clean the screens using some soft cloth? Like the ones that come with a laptop? I could use it to remove the dirts, if that helps to protect the screens.

Hori is the only kind you should use

Screen guards are easy to put on, there's even websites that do a step by step process (why on earth I don't know)

Just get a screen protector and that's it, you're really talking about babysitting a portable device?

    Don't over complicate things.
