Idk man, I think around 2008 they went full casual and stopped supporting the system with games and that was their downfall. They became a multiplat/Kinectbox.
They lost SOOOOOOOOOOO much marketshare, while Sony started from scratch with 0 marketshare and just kept gaining marketshare, the 360 started this gen with 100% marketshare and managed to end this generation with the least amount of marketshare.

i'd say, spending money for timed exclusives instead of new ip's
Plus the xbox brand is the weakest out of the big 3, so that has alot to do with it
