After buying the *g Wii U (all that's available) I already learned how much gigs the download would take up. Bought SD card and will be an external hard drive as well. Anyone with an 8 Gig after download will only have about 3.5 gigs left, anyone with a 32, will only have about 25 left. With that said, After 1 hour and 30 min, the download is not even close to a quarter of the way done! This is with download speeds of 5.7 and Upload speeds at 3.4. I am really taken back at the hours needed for this. This may be 5 hours or longer!!!! My suggestion, direct connect internet, do not browse or interrupt internet, and DO NOT SHUT OF CONSOLE AND RESTART (known issue to cause longer downloading). At this point I wish I had an Ethernet chord as long as i need to get to the other side of the house faster speeds! THIS IS TIME CONSUMING!!! SO BE READY!!!!!!!

It's partly that the network isn't very fast, but also your connection too.

Mine updated in about 60-70 minutes. Unnecessarily long, but not 5 hours long

Nintendo Network ID: bonesawisready Currently Playing:Rayman Legends Challenges App, Sleeping Dogs, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario World

I was suprised by how long it took as well but mine only took about an hour and a half, not five hours. I turned on my 3DS and played Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure while I was waiting.

I let it run about 5 hours. Got 1/2 way and tired of waiting to play so I stopped it, played Nintendo Land for an hour then started it back up and it started over again

My update seemed to take about 20-30 minutes. It was pretty long, but not terrible bad. Then again, I have very, very fast speeds.

It was a tease though, people at the house waiting had pizza.

Mine was rather slow. I did a batch of dishes and cleaned my bathroom while I waited.

Do not invite me to your union. Doing so will get you ignored.

I wish I knew exactly how long it took for my Wii U to fully update (I did not use a stopwatch).

Mine took a long time, the servers are clogged with everyone trying to update all at once.

It was a long update, then I popped around the menu, and everything was a bit slow.

Finally, after creating a Mii, I popped in NintendoLand...and I got another update.

I wanted to go to the shop, but I was tired and navigating around the machine should be faster.

    Took about 40 minutes.

Gotta say though, when I noticed it was taking an unusually long time to get started I checked Google and the horror stories scared me a bit. Luckily, no power/internet outages. They are rare in my area anyway so it would have really been a terrible freak accident had one occurred and bricked my system.

Hopefully, updates will be a bit faster in the future.

The update only took so long for me because I kept getting connection to server errors, then i'd have to back out of it and restart the update, luckily though it started where it left off.

You do realies that SD card is only for used for Wii in Wii mode right?.. You have to buy a external HDD for storering VC, DLC and Digital Retail games.

So I was updating and kept getting error codes so I said eff it and my wife and I played NSMBU for a while and it downloaded the update in the background. When we left the game to mess around with the menus it was all downloaded and ready to install. Still took too long but atleast you can play a Wii U game while its downloading things.

Well I think they said they did it with a software update like this so people who got theirs early to review games wouldn't be able to see any of the system feature software at first..
