System Wars is a one of a kind destination where gamers can discuss, rant, and debate about systems, platforms, handhelds and the games. Not many people survive System Wars. The mightiest system warriors back up their arguments with facts.

Rules are simple:
- Read the Terms of Use and System Wars Survival Guide.
- Must be Level 10 or higher to create topics.
- Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats.
- Don't quote more than one image in your post.
- Do NOT post or bump extremely abusive discussions (adult material/illegal activities/illegal advertising/etc).

Is Halo 4 the greatest love story in gaming this gen? *spoilers*

No. It's because apparently some of these people have no idea what quality storytelling is. Silent Hill 2, Planescape Torment, Nier, Bioshock, etc, those games have quality storytelling. Hell, even Black Ops 1 and 2 have better storytelling. Halo 4's is incredibly basic stuff.

    Just stop.

It's true. Those games atleast get creative with the way they tell their stories. Halo 4's story is entirely straightforward and simple.

Where the hell is Liquid, Darklink, and champ when you need em.

There is no reason to have complexity just for the sake of it. If the source material is good and there is a story to tell, a straight forward approach is just fine.

It's not the best story in gaming, but it's not terrible either

So people have an attachment to these characters, get emotional over the ending, and you basically say, "fvck your feelings...XYZ game is better"

C'mon man. That's like I'm laughing at a joke and you're telling me I'm not supposed to laugh because Dave Chapelle could have told it funnier...

Black ops 1 is standard for video games, nothing special and the twist was obvious throughout most of the game.

Also, I 'm curious do you need them because you're unable to argue your point adequately? Anyway my answer to the topic is no.

Exactly. I'm not talking about the main story were Ancient Evil Dude wants to steal the McGuffin to take over the universe (or destroy it, I wasn't too clear on that) I was arguing that Master Chief's and Cortana connection was very well executed, which is why the ending was such a big payoff (for others...not for you obviously). It was easily the best part of the story and carried the story for me.

That's why I think it did a better job than any game this gen at that part.

I didn't think it was that good. Cortona gets left behind big whoop, I never cared about her. She's just a computer program.

While I personally saw nothing to cry about with the ending, I thought it did a good job setting up for Halo 5 or whatever.

For sure. It's not that Halo 4's story was bad but there was way too much love for it in this thread. It's not insulting to Halo to remind everyone what real excellence in storytelling is. Halo isn't even about the story.

Yeah. Yeah, it kind of was.

Just saw the ending on YouTube, didnt really think the ending was that great, it was short and he should have at least showed his face to her ( did he ever show his face ever?).. anyways i'll try to watch all cutscenes soon from the start.

    Why?

Because the story is cliche as f*ck. Anybody with the slightest experience in movies, books, video games, life, whatever, has seen it done before countless times (and done much better). Chief didn't even have any semblance of character up until Halo 4 and now we're just supposed to buy the idea that him and Cortana have some kind of deep and meaningful relationship? Get outa here. It's so ridiculously forced and poorly executed.

so what? just because its a cliche doesnt mean it was bad. clearly chief feels that he failed his mission. since the first halo his job has been to protect her and vice versa
