ForumsSystem Wars › What RPG this gen has the best combat?

System Wars is a one of a kind destination where gamers can discuss, rant, and debate about systems, platforms, handhelds and the games. Not many people survive System Wars. The mightiest system warriors back up their arguments with facts.

Rules are simple:
- Read the Terms of Use and System Wars Survival Guide.
- Must be Level 10 or higher to create topics.
- Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats.
- Don't quote more than one image in your post.
- Do NOT post or bump extremely abusive discussions (adult material/illegal activities/illegal advertising/etc).

Pokemon has as much depth as a 20 years old archaic turn-based rpg from the Nes.

Yet, it has more depth than most RPG battle systems.

    Powerful, but inaccurate attacks.
Reliable but not quite as powerful attacks.
Attacks with additional purposes, such as an attack+chance of paralysis
Buffs (attack up, speed up, ect)
Debuffs (attack down, speed down, ect)
Major Status Ailments such as poison and paralysis of which, you can only choose one
Minor Status Ailments such as confusion
    Nullification skills
    Battlefield control skills
    Weather
    Swapping skills
    Delayed Effects
Skills with negative side effects (recoil, sacrifice, self debuffs)
Skills whose power and effect is determined on various variables

Then there are stuff outside combat.

17 Types (fire, water, grass, ect)
An equipment system that actually adds depth to the game a opposed to bigger numbers
    4 move limit
A stat gain system, where you have essentially have 127 stat points to distribute although you cant distribute over 63 to a single stat. These points are those that come in addition to those you spend.
A trait system where pokemon each pokemon has 2 traits, 1 which is based on its species, the other which is randomly selected for each pokemon between 2 for its family.

For action rpg, it's ME3 easily for me. It's one of the very few where if you plucked out the combat and put it into a pure action game, it wouldn't get voted as one of the worst action games to ever be made. Most action RPGs have flat out terrible combat that makes decades old titles like Streets of Rage seem godly.

@Maroxad, most of what you listed is barebones run of the mill every RPG and their mom has this features, whether it be a JRPG or WRPG. Status effects are like the hallmark of a RPG.

hmm from what I've played...Demon's/Dark Souls or Graces f. Maybe Dragon Dogma. I haven't played Mount&Blade sadly.

Personally I don't see how people can vote for the Witcher 2. I'm just not enjoying the combat. >.> Everything else is good though.

Officially Married to Archvile78 since 12/24/11, may our happiness and love last.

    Is there really any question?

    Tales of Graces f.

    Go home everyone.

And on a side note.. Skyrim? XD Bah. I would never even consider that glitchy-ass game. Bethesda really needs to work on making their games more polished and professional.

I liked Dragon Age Orgins the most, since its reminiscent of old school RPGs, which I am a huge fan of.
