And on the seventh day, God rested. Having created the heavens and the Earth, the seas and all they contain, He ceased all labors. But the seventh day being a Sunday, and with all of His fantasy teams playing, He needed a shortstop. So God created Derek Jeter, and blessed him, and said unto him, be fruitful. And Jeter was good. Jeter held dominion over opposing pitchers (.343 AVG in 2006), was plentiful in power (14 HR and 97 RBIs), and moved over the earth (34 steals) and across home plate (118 runs). And God blessed Jeter, and sanctified him, and said to Roto owners everywhere, make Jeter your No. 1 middle infielder.

Marlins on the verge of sending Yunel Escobar to the Rays for minor leaguer IF, Derick Dietrich.

Edit: Done deal. Marlins now have 21 million dollars committed to 7 players. 11.5M is dedicated to one player...

If I hear one more rumor about Upton I'm going to blow a gasket. I wouldn't trade the kid, but the morons in Arizona don't like him, so trade him already.

Wow. And I read an article that said he was totally open to leaving and it would be before the best.

Nolasco is next, even though I've read they won't deal him. But he wants to be traded. As a Jays fan, this'll be fun. Yunel in Tampa, Farrell in Boston...some fun reunions.

^ What can you tell me on Alfredo Silverio? Marlins picked him up on the Rule V draft. I know he was one of the Dodgers' top prospects last year before getting into a bad car accident.

Chavez signs for 3 mill, couldn't the Yank offer 6? 9? If this team crumbles because of Hal Steinbrenner and the tax issue you will see a wrath like none seen before. As for all the CF frenzy, I shall measure all deals by the deft Denard Span acquisition by the Nats. By that standard that Pagan, Victorino and Upton deal look not that smart.

Jayson Stark is reporting the Dodgers will sign Zach Grienke. If those reports are true, that's going to be one helluva one-two punch at the top of the rotation.

Table comparing Santana, Sabathia and Greinke in a 3 year period before signing big Free Agent contracts.

^^^^ 3 year period previous to signing a big contract.

And they aren't done. Lots of reports and rumors swirling that Sanchez is now at the top of their list and they STILL have money. Still talking to Ryu Hyun-Jim.

Rangers now going to try and and trade for Shields or Dickey, and/or Justin Upton. And I think they'll resign Hamilton now.

Dodgers are crazy, but hey, not my money.

Still very risky to give a mega contract to a pitcher though.

    Dodgers are reckless.

1-4 Deep like the two WS contenders, with a possibility to make some trades now for even more depth What do the Marlins want for Giiiiiiannncaaarrlloooo? We'll give you Dee, Ethier and some pitchers.
The Greeeenke becomes the highest paid pitcher per annual value, i'm surprised it only took 150 to get it done. Now they need to start on the dump truck full of money for Kershaw in a few years.
Not only will the 2013 Blue crew open up as the biggest payroll in team history but as the biggest payroll in MLB history, obliterating what the "coupon clipping" Yankees have done
I get the feeling the days of finding $2 tickets on stubhub for the upper deck are long gone! Who on Earth (that isn't from Texas) would actually pick Texas over SoCal?? I couldn't buy those reports that the Rangers were now in the lead to land him, no freakin way! I'd rather play for the Angels, the Rangers are headed downhill and you have to pitch to the DH, no way!

As far as Silverio i have no idea, i don't really keep up with minor leaguers until they're going to come up to the show, you would have to be check sites like www.mikesciosciastragicillness.com or chadmoriyama.com. Now i'm gonna go on the radio and cry like that one Angel fan last year after they signed Pujols 'cept our guys aren't on the wrong side of 30.

James Shields and Wade Davis traded to the Royals for top-5 (overall) prospect Will Myers. Love this move from a Rays perspective, not sure about the wisdom of it from the Royals unless they plan to expand upon this plan to improve their rotation during the offseason.

The Royals rotation will certainly be better next year. Shields eats innings and Davis can either start or pitch out of the pen. However I don't like how much the Royals gave up. Beyond Myers, Odorizzi and Montgomery were Top 100 prospects last year (68 and 23, respectively). Odorizzi was Omaha's Pitcher of the Year last year while Montgomery struggled between AA and AAA. Leonard is in rookie ball so he has time to develop.

It's a desperate, win now, trade. 2 years of Shields as I expect he'll try FA, and Davis is viewed as a bullpen pitcher for all those excellent prospects.

If all these prospects work out, which nothing is gureenteed, even Myers, Rays easily win the trade. And they still have a great rotation.
