The purpose of this thread is to see if anyone else has had a great amount of difficulty collecting for the SNES and Saturn in recent years? The reason I mention these two consoles is that it seems like it's becoming harder and harder to collect for these consoles without taking out a second mortgage, selling your organs, or consulting a loan shark. I typically find most of my games at places like thrift stores or flea markets, however less common SNES and Saturn games have evaded me almost constantly at these places. I've got lucky a few times, but overall, they are the two main consoles I have the most difficulty finding good deals on. I don't even attempt Ebay anymore and video game stores are even more expensive. It's just frustrating because there are so many great games on those consoles, however they are not worth the $50+ pricetag to me. For several, I'd gladly pay $50 even, but those games are the ones that consistently break $100 (ie Earthbound, Hagane, EVO, ect). Please share your own frustrations in collecting for these consoles, or even other consoles that you've had a hard time finding good deals on. Oh, and good resources for finding cheaper prices on these console's games is appreciated.

if you donīt think they are worth 50$+ then just burn them. I always get so sick about people complaining about prices.

    what retro boom?

panzer dragoon saga costs 200$ just like 10 years ago, dragon force and guardian heroes have actually become cheaper the past 10 years and shining force 3 is still around 70-80$ and I could name a lot more

and your example of panzer dragoon saga? yeah, the game used to cost 200$

    now it costs 300

that's the only english copy available on ebay.com

I suppose its also some nostalgia, but that only goes to a certain extent.

I think that non retro gamers woke up to the fact that some old games can be worth quite a bit, so they try to pawn them off at inflated prices.

then other non retro gamers go to ebay and see that the game they own was sold for... let's say 100 dollars, so they decide to sell their copy for 120

then the next guy sees that copy being sold and sells his for 140

and so on and so forth, just my two cents

    I suppose its all relative.

I personally got Panzer Saga (PAL , complete with boxes , manuals, cardboard box , etc) for Ģ60 , which , while is almost the price of 2 new games, is still very, very cheap , compared to what the game usually goes for.

at the same time, its still an overly expensive game, on that I agree.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is like 20 bucks if you import from what i've seen, and it's not like you can't find good deals or opportunities if you check around. Ebay is one of the worst places to look for rare games from my experience, they usually inflate the prices to Hell.

That's what I ended up doing; I bought the japanese version (Azel) for like $10 complete about 2-years ago. I have to use a script to understand some of the parts and menus (I am somewhat proficient in Japanese, but nowhere near fluent), but honestly it's better then dropping $200 to $300 on a NTSC or PAL copy.

And yes, Ebay sellers are typically horrible when it comes to pricing. They try and screw people for as much money as possible, and all it takes is one buyer with more money than brains to ruin it for everyone else. As soon as someone pays $30 for a used copy of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, they all think it's okay to charge $30+ for that game.

I love video games, but on a personal level, very few are actually worth $50+. I put into consideration the quality, length, depth, rarity, and various other things when decising how much a game is worth to me. Yes, Panzer Saga is objectively worth $200+, but the most I'd personally pay for it is probably $90 for the NTCS version. Likewise, games like EVO I couldn't spend more than $50 on a used copy, pretty much what it sold for new when it was released. Just my own way of doing things. If you like spending full price for games, good for you for having the money to do so. I have a limited income and bills to worry about so I tend to buy really cheap 90% of the time.

I've ben itching to get a Saturn for so long now, that i've digested a ton about it. Such a brilliant console, and the best 5th gen console to get these days because, not only is it built like a tank (probably the best disk based build, 2nd only to the Gamecube) but a good chunk of its games have remained exclusive and they have aged gracefully because the tight gameplay is still tight and fun, never mind the 2D bliss of games. PS1/N64 games have ben literally ported all over the place, on PSN, collections, VC, etc.

Hell, i've even made a list of cheap (1-5$, max 15$) games, but excellent ones to get:

Galactic Attack, Legend of Oasis, Daytona USA Championship, Virtua Cop 1&2, Sega Rally Championship, Fighters Megamix, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, Astal and obviously a crap load of 2D fighting games. And Elevator Actions Returns & Shinobi Legions (these two are in the 40-50$ price range).

But man, it's crazy how much price difference there is between the japanese and the NA/PAL version of a lot of games. That's why i've refrained from getting a Saturn, until i have enough money saved. I'm willing to spend up to 50-60$ on any game that appeals to me, but no way am i spending more.
