As a gamer who enjoys playing futuristic franchises like 'Mass Effect' and 'Halo' I find myself wondering if certain franchises rely too much on hologram style graphics..

It's obvious the certain developers think holograms will have an important role to play within the future..

It's also quite obvious certain movie directors think holograms will have an important role to play too.. Examples.. "Ridly Scott's Prometheus" and "George Lucas Star Wars"

And in the real world, it's seems hologram tech is evolving..

BUT at present, whilst gaming, do you get tired of seeing the same hologram style graphics, whether they be control panels, communication devices, maps ect?

    Are holograms the future?

I dont see where theres a "reliance" on it. 3D imaging is the next logical step in display technology. its just another piece of what we expect the future to have.

One thing that always bugged me is: why would anyone in the future want a holographic projector that renders everything is transparent blue? Wouldn't it be better to have a monitor and have pictures in color?

Transparent screens look rather uncomfortable. It looks like it would be harder to read and I don't see the point of having transparent screens in places such as against a wall anyway. The screen and text just don't feel very "crisp" and just seem to have lower readability than a normal actual monitor

As for the keyboards, I don't find that very proper either. In most cases when you type fast, you don't fully look at the keyboard. That's because there's proper feedback, we can feel the keys, we can feel the pressure we put on them, the sound of them. With a holoboard, the feedback just isn't there, no feedback at all and would make it really hard to type without actually looking at the keyboard to see where you type. Not to mention it would be quite the issue with typing fast because how you "slide" the fingers across the keys but if it's touchscreen-ish that would bring a lot of errors.

Naww, I sure as hell wouldn't use this crap

It's never bothered me but I see what you mean. But you know it's like the 1950s and 60s perception of the future around 2000 they thought we would have robot house maids by now and flying cars, they never would of thought about Iphones etc. I don't know how Holographic TV's and presentations will ever work though especially considering they always have a muted colour palette that would annoy me.
