From what I understand some people managed to hack somehow and used level 1 characters on trial accounts to kill players on multiple EU servers.
I'm guessing they somehow managed to get their character enabled with GM commands and used /kill (or similar commands) on everyone. Not sure how they did it though since these kind of commands will be kept server based. They probably somehow got access to server files or a GM's account, or it could have been a pissed off Blizzard employee that's on his/her last day at the company before being fired.

Ok I know now how they did it. It was a regular hack or cheat program they used. The same type of program you might have seen years ago when the game was out. It was a bunch of guys from a website I won't mention here, that managed to somehow get a kill command working. It also worked on bosses.
It's been fixed...for now.
