Well, the 360, despite it's hardware problems, accrued fantastic software and put it in a spectacular place in gaming history. It's a good product, so next gen will be very interesting as they have a lot more fans to transition to next generation.
However, I did notice that the beginning of this generation vs. 360 today, there are less gaming creative visionaries around. It's something I hope they continue to rectify. The 360 started with an explosion due to those visionaries, and it sort of went on cruise control mid-gen (2008-2009 is when the transition started). Middle managers do come in and don't understand gaming, and certainly don't want to learn. They are there to profit. The issue is finding a balance between creative types and the suits. It's a balancing act.
I am listening to this podcast, but I'm still not done. She did bring up Bach, Allard, and other tid bits. I'm interested to hear Trixie360's (Christa Charter) perspective after working there and deciding to leave. Some of you might know her from 'Inside Xbox' which was cancelled. She left before it was cancelled though. In the podcast, she blames the new UI as it hid 'Inside Xbox' in lieu of advertisers. She says the new dashboard made it so "Inside Xbox" got poor traffic, and therefore caused cancellation. A shame she isn't gaming much anymore. She also was sad about the loss of Gamerscore blog, and she wishes ads were reserved for Silver, and she thinks Gold members should get the choice to be ad free. She feels community fell to the wayside once profitability was achieved. She wrote the booklets for Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Voodoo Vince, as well as a lot of Xbox Booklets/tech manuals.
There is a lot of things right and wrong with every company. It's all about balance.
