After it spent a few months patiently waiting in my Steam library, I played Mirror's Edge for the first time yesterday, and was absolutely blown away by it. The concept is so simple and there's nothing more satisfying that flawlessly covering a large distance without a hiccup.

What do people on SW think of it? It hardly ever seems to get any mention around here. I think it's without a doubt, one of the most underrated games ever.

It's a mediocre game that shows potential. If they fix the interior level design to match the rooftop free running, in a sequal, then it'd be a good game.

It's definitely fun and visually breathtaking. Worth a play through but not very much replay value IMO. The combat that occurs later is a little janky. But overall I really enjoyed it, wish it would get a sequel.

Im not saying those arent great games. Im saying they just didnt have the impact on gaming like console games in comparison. Halo pretty much kickstarted the FPS genre.

My opinion is a fantasic underrated game that is very short, hope they make a longer campaign if they do Mirror's Edge 2. Still one of my favorites though.

seemed more like a concept demo than a game.

would make a nice feature in a real game. Rip off day 1

Given that I payed $2.50 for it, it was hardly a rip-off.

Very fun, GORGEOUS graphics and art style, combat sucks but understandable, music is fantastic, personally like Faith.

A very unique and fun game with many flaws, but also with a lot of potential.

    It was a little underrated.

The core gameplay and the visuals are both very very cool, and it feels amazing at its best, but people seem to forget how everything beyond the pure platforming was kind of crap.

I just want to say--again--something I have said many, many times before: Dispel the notion that a game starts at a 10, and gets points "docked" from it. That would be a really silly way to review a game.

Game reviews aren't mathematical logarithms. They are the result of an experience that makes an impression on the mental and emotional superhighway of the game reviewer. I don't have a spreadheet that starts with a 10 and has calculations built in, where "low frame rate" = a .25 hit to the score. It doesn't work that way, and thank God for that.

it looks pretty, i'll give it that.

but clunky controls and lack of "flow" in many segments damaged a lot of the game's potential. flow is particularly important on a speedrunning parkour game. and then you have the combat, which completely killed the game for me. if it wasn't for the combat, maybe i wouldn't have given up on the game near the end.

and of course, people should know better than to ask a person to platform in first person. it works in real life because of body and spatial awareness, and because you can move your head without turning the rest of the body with it. those things don't exist in a videogame, which makes first person platforming tougher than it should be, and leads to many moments where a jump doesn't work the first 3 times, but the 4th time it magically works (wall running into ropes to slide down >.> )
