ForumsSystem Wars › Overstrike [FUSE] art style changed beca ...

System Wars is a one of a kind destination where gamers can discuss, rant, and debate about systems, platforms, handhelds and the games. Not many people survive System Wars. The mightiest system warriors back up their arguments with facts.

Rules are simple:
- Read the Terms of Use and System Wars Survival Guide.
- Must be Level 10 or higher to create topics.
- Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats.
- Don't quote more than one image in your post.
- Do NOT post or bump extremely abusive discussions (adult material/illegal activities/illegal advertising/etc).

Overstrike [FUSE] art style changed because Cartoons = Kids Game.

So, professional artists bend to the whim of 12 year olds. Very smart.

PS3, Wii, 360 owner. Not gonna lie though, I dont really care for the 360.

    PC: CPU = i7980x, GPU = Nvidia Quadro 4000, RAM = 24gb Corsair Dominator DDR3, Mobo = Asus P6X58D, PSU = Corsair 1200ax, Case = Antec 1200.

Wow I was excited for this game but this game is going to be S!it now. It might even get lower than RE6 did.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the state of the modern gaming industry; where 12 year olds are the deciding factor that changes the product. 12 year olds who think the game isn't 'mature' enough.

    12 year olds.

    Mature.

I still find the concept of anyone losing interest in this game because of an artstyle change more absurd than anything in that story, really.

I just want to say--again--something I have said many, many times before: Dispel the notion that a game starts at a 10, and gets points "docked" from it. That would be a really silly way to review a game.

Game reviews aren't mathematical logarithms. They are the result of an experience that makes an impression on the mental and emotional superhighway of the game reviewer. I don't have a spreadheet that starts with a 10 and has calculations built in, where "low frame rate" = a .25 hit to the score. It doesn't work that way, and thank God for that.

I thought that too, then I looked at the trailers, since that is all there is to go on... I think-- at least it was all the research I felt like doing, and it seems like the premise of the game changed too. In FUSE they walk through enemy fire like tanks while shooting back, in Overstike, they were agile and co-operative and dodged around.

Also, there is no better way to show distaste with a developer's decision than not buying their product.

Systems: PS1, SNES, Gamecube, GBA, DS Lite, Wii, PS2.

Why is everyone focusing on the 12 year olds part? He merely stated that to compound how largely mislead people were being by the artstyle.

Focus Testing almost always improves sales.

    Sad, but true.

It is the reason why the film industry is currently stuck in a "Post-Content Era," where making a movie with substance is nearly impossible because no studio wants to take a risk on a film that costs them $400 Million (production + marketing costs) to release. The same thing is happening with the gaming industry.

You start talking budgets pushing $100 Million and companies decide that content be damned, they are gonna add/remove/change whatever the hell their focus groups tell them.
