Most iconic war photos

I thought I'd start a thread where people posted some war photos that aren"t necessarily famous, but evoke a powerful emotional response. Here are some I liked:

A Free Syria Army fighter near the Turkish border 2012

An Iranian Soldier during an Iraqi chemical attack. Iran-iraq War 1980-1988. The fighting stagnated and eerily resembled the western front of WW1.

A Kamikaze pilot (I beleive he was actually from the army rather than the navy) 1945

Vietnam War. This is the photo that Willem Dafoe's death scene in Platoon was based off of.

Hitler and his staff in Paris after the French surender. 1940.

Fall of Sadam Hussein's statue in Baghdad. 2003

And yes, the flag raising on Iwo Jima is great, but everyone has seen that picture.

I have no respect for the Nazis, but it is an impressive sight nonetheless.

There's a lot of more gruesome Vietnam pics that I thoght about posting but... well, i don't think anyone wants to see massacred civilians lying in a ditch. or a naked child with her skin burnt...

Can't find much info on this one but I think it is an American soldier burried inder snow in the Korean war. That must have been true hell.

442nd infantry regiment, Italy 1944. There's just something surreal about seeing ethnic Japanese in WW2 US army gear...

yea, the only visually appealing war pics are the ones that show destruction (not overtly human), the ones that depict leaders of countries, the ones that display the scope of the war, and the the ones that just have that iconic feel to them

That second one is pretty intense. I assume these are from the allied bombing of germany?

I realize that. By "on that note" I meant the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Yup. Both were damage from German flak.

I have no idea. I guess the pilot survived although I can't say the same for the bombardier. At least the end came quickly for him.

When I first read about the Yamato and saw photos, I thought at first it was an Allied battleship. It looked so sleek and different from previous Japanese battleships like the Nagatos, Fusos, and Ise-class battleships.

The one with the napalm over a Vietnamese road with children running.
