Nintendo "human resources" must approve your Miiverse posts - Iwata: "I think 30 minutes [delay] should be acceptable".

Nintendo "human resources" must approve your Miiverse posts By Tom Phillips Published 7 June, 2012 Iwata: "I think 30 minutes [delay] should be acceptable".

Messages posted to Miiverse, Nintendo's suite of Wii U social functions, could face a delay of around 30 minutes to appear.

This is because the social networking service will be actively moderated by Nintendo-employed "human resources" personnel.

Each message posted to Miiverse, displayed on the Wii U desktop and in specific areas in Wii U software, will need to be read and verified before it becomes visible.
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said he thought a delay of half an hour when posting messages was fine.

"The attraction of a social network is the immediacy of the feedback," Iwata explained to LA Times. But Nintendo needed to balance that with the need to make the service child-friendly, he continued.

"Personally, I think 30 minutes [delay] should be acceptable."

But even this estimate is subject to change, depending on how many people are trying to use the service and the number of Nintendo staff available to read through messages.

Each post will be automatically screened by a computer first, presumably to remove any obvious swears. Users will also be able to flag up any comments/penis pictures that get through the other filters.

I recommend reading through the gaf thread.. heaps of laughs

Also this is counter productive.. nintendo catering to the little kids again..

Cant do a smart thing like parental control settings.....

30 minute delay is bad. "hey bro can you help me out on this section" *30 min later* "Sure thing *helps*" *30 min later* This just shows that nintendo still are playing catch up. Thats what parental control is for!!

30 min delay on public Miiverse posts, it's not a 30 min. delay for known friends...

parental controls won't do anything, parents are very ignorant and when asked to setup parental controls they'll immediately say "I don't know about this stuff" and skip it. Or the kid will learn the stupidly easy passwords the parents use and get passed it anyway.

Parental controls are definitely needed when it comes to the social aspect. Just implement parental controls and that should eliminate the need for HR.

Like it or not, Nintendo likes to keep their sh!t family friendly. There's no way Nintendo is going to allow people to tell other people to jump off a bridge and kill themselves just because they can't figure something out.

Look, I don't want penises all over my screen either but I'll just flag that stuff myself and move on. No need for some moderator checking up on me and letting me know what's appropriate for me.

That much of a delay is ridiculous. That said, the way they showed those messages popping up in the middle of games; I guess would be hell for spoilers so they need some type of monitoring.

You can still enjoy rampant racism, sexism, penis jokes, homophobia, and whatnot. Just not in the public domain, find some friends who enjoy that...

this is ok....no point in asking for help in a game and end up either getting told "you suck, omg how can you be stuck at this part...its soooooo easy, i'm like way better than you!" or getting a spoiler of some sorts

it'll prolly be around 30 minutes around launch time...but i see it shortening to 15 once everything is smooth sailing later and nintendo gets a better idea on how many HR people they'll need

I guess I don't see the issue with this. There wont be a delay between your contacts/friends list. It is only going to censor stuff in the public domain, which I approve of. If I do get a WiiU, my kids will be playing it. If they have access to an open forum with no parental controls options, I welcome Nintendo proofreading the posts before they go up. At this point there is just to little information on how its going to be implemented for me to get upset about it, but it seems as long as you have friends, it wont be an issue. Now on the other hand, if you have no friends and your only way to talk to people is through an open forum, then you may get upset at the delay involved.

No everyone in your country that speaks your language shows up in Miiverse and they can post anything as long as Nintendo approves it.

They only ones that don't need approval from Nintendo's HR is posts of people on your friends list if they are friend to friend post it wont be monitored.

""The attraction of a social network is the immediacy of the feedback"
"30 minutes to appear"

I am usually don't like to get involved in this dirty war between the consoles but judging from these replies I can't help but to get slightly irritated. Had this been Microsoft, or (especially) Sony, this would've been a complete ****storm of hate and rage but as usual, Nintendo is treated differently. Like "the little good boy of the family". They can just get away with anything. Microsoft and Sony are evil greedy corporations but Nintendo is all about spreading love and joy!

What and the Cows and Lems don't? I've seen a lot of things against Nintendo, a lot more than Wow_Rouge sees. Heck, even their own fans (the true ones that actually give them a chance) are on their case about this years E3.

Microsoft and Sony are evil greedy corporations but Nintendo is all about spreading love and joy!

i completely agree. Nintendo always gets 'special treatment" and when they get called out on it the sheep get nasty.

when they get frustrated, they use the Vita as their pucnhing bag to take out thier frustration

Seeing as it's only the Miiverse thing and nothing else good. Don't want the first thing to see when I turn on my console is a bunch of dumb remarks.
