Yamakasi Catleap Q270 SE 27 inch IPS Monitor | Initial Impressions | 56k
- May 9, 2012 5:08 pm GMTI purchased an LG 1080p screen for $320 and two weeks later came across a thread at OCF regarding the Yamakasi Catleap Q270 screens. Ended up selling ym LG to a mate for $150 and ordered a Yamakasi Catleap Q270 SE off eBay late Thursday afternoon for $328 Australian. The item shipped and was delivered to my workplace Tuesday morning making for an incredibly short shipping time. I've never even had things ship to me this quickly from other sellers in Australia before so I was impressed. I got the screen home and set it up. Absolutely amazed at how much better the picture quality is vs my previous LG. The base is a bit wobbly though thats not a big deal, my only gripe is that I ended up with one dead pixel in the top right hand corner of my screen. Funnily it took me a while to find this after I'd set it up as the pixels are so small that it easily goes by unnoticed. Even with this flaw I consider the screen to be far superior to my previous TN based LG. S-IPS screens really are worth it! On the down side I'm running a 1GB HD6870 which at 1920x1050 I was able to run at Ultra settings in BF3. I've found that at 2560x1440 I've had to drop the settings back to High and disable AA. Funnily enough it STILL looks better than my old screen at 1920x1050. Highly recommended

Glad to hear yours turned out well too. The picture quality is incredible compared to my previous Asus monitor. I have looked for dead pixels but none have turned up. I have terrible eyes anyway so even if theyre were some I would probably never notice :P

Xonotic - free and open source, it's a fast paced first person shooter for Linux, Mac OS, and Windows!
I asked dream-seller about my dead pixel (I though it was black but it seems to be able to show the color blue) and about the small amount of dust in my tempered glass Shimian and this is what he said: "Dear ____________________, Hi! About the dead pixel, up to 10 pcs of dead pixel, manufacturers of monitors in Korea don't replace the monitor with dead pixel with a new replacement. It's a part of law in Korea. We are really sorry for this inconvenience. And QH270-IPSB tempered glass monitors are mostly used at PC rooms in Korea. That is unfortunate but based on the poll result, most people have received perfect. Not saying its not a risk, but having even a couple dead pixels out of 3,686,400 total pixels would hardly be noticeable, especially in game.
My only concern at this point is the longevity of the monitor. That has yet to be proven since people have just started buying these the past few months.
You've noticed? I am one hell of an indecisive person finding out whether I should get this monitor has been riving me more insane than finding a job or a house! The way it was explained to me is that "two of the five versions that have tempered glass. A lot of ppl were reporting dust getting stuck between the glass and the panel itself. You can clean it but it's a pain imo. The multi version with HDMI has crazy input lag. Which boils it down to two versions, with and without speakers. The speakers are poo so you basically just pick whichever one is cheaper." I want the the version without speakers, without tempered glass, and without HDMI as well, but don't have a clue how to find out which is which. I can search for the product myself but I just need a version number or name or something. "Yamakasi" and "CatLeap" are all I know.

I have the one without tempered glass, no speakers, and no HDMI (its the Q270 SE) and I bought it from this seller. I don't know if he consistently ships the same models but you could always try contacting him for more info.
I was on the fence about it too but I felt that the pros outweighed the cons so I just said "**** it" and bought it. I'm usually like you where I extensively research every bit of information I can find about something. I did a little bit a research but not nearly as much as I did when I was picking parts for my PC. the monitor has worked out great for me thus far and I'm really enjoying the extra screen space. I can easily have MS Word, Firefox, Skype, and Steam all open on screen at the same time and clearly be able to read everything without having to scroll left and right.
Example

Its helped a lot with working on papers for school and such so I don't have to constantly switching between windows. I could kind of do this before on my 1080p monitor but as I stated before, my eyes are terrible so I couldn't read the text as easily.

If your card is the 2GB model you should be fine. I was doing to tests on certain games with only 1 of my 2GB 6950s and my performance didn't take much of a hit in most cases. In BF3 though I did a mix of High and Ultra @1080p, but with 1440p I went to everything at High. Ironically, the game now looks better than at lower settings just because of the higher resoltution.
No problem help you out. Best of luck to you on the monitor. Let everyone know how it turns out. Maybe if enough people start buying these, the bigger companies will start dropping their prices :P

Very sexy. I think I have bugged you and some others enough now. I am ready. The Q270 SE, yea? That's what I will be getting. My GTX 570 better handle it. Life better allow me to be lucky for once. Thanks a bunch!

If your card is the 2GB model you should be fine. I was doing to tests on certain games with only 1 of my 2GB 6950s and my performance didn't take much of a hit in most cases. lol note that that is with 1 2GB 6950. If I have crossfire on I easily get 60FPS. A 680 might be a tad overkill :P
I think an OC'd 670 would more than enough
It is actuall the 1.25 GB version. Still worth it? I will probably do what you suggested on the various foums I am on so it's cool. I have mostly been binging on Tribes: Ascend and that game isn't too demanding.
Yeah for Tribes Ascend 1.25 should be fine. A 570 is more powerful than a 6950 so you should be set. You also don't need to use as much antialiasing so if you're not getting a desired performance, you can lower the AA without things getting too jaggy

The future of triple monitor set ups @ 7680x1440 :P
Between my 2 cards I have 4GB VRAM and handle this resolution with ease even on demanding games. I think you'd be completely safe with a 3GB 670, but if you insist on the 4GB 680, go for it :)
I don't think a 3GB 670 exists:P, a 4GB is suppose to though.
I really hate how low of stock the 680 has been, I'll be lucky to get a 2GB one let alone a 4GB at a fair price. If more were common later, I should get one in June or July.
