Apparently, they've updated the chipset in iPad 2's to a 32nm processor.

Results in a 20% battery increase. I feel bad for people who just bought an iPad 2

Actually it's still kind of a game of luck whether or not you get one. Either way you get great battery life, in one instance you just happen to get outrageous battery life, lol.

I think if u buy it from Apple directly then you are guaranteed one,if u buy it from another store then they are more than likely to have the older versions on sale

Nope, Apple is still shipping the old model as well (although I don't know if that means they're just clearing inventory or if they're still manufacturing the 45nm model). The 32nm A5 is basically a test-run of Samsung's 32nm process for the iPhone 5 processor (since you don't want to risk manufacturing issues limiting supply for that big a product launch), so Apple will still have a huge supply of 45nm iPad 2's in case they run (or, by the looks of it, had run) into any issues with 32nm.

That said, I wish Apple had taken a chance and tried to get the A5X out on 32nm; mah iPad 3 gets just toasty enough to be a little disconcerting.

Now thats one hell of a battery life, the industry really need to move to better battery solutions. I hope apple doesnt go after the thinnest phone ever and gives the next iphone a massive battery cuz if that happens then other companies would also fell less insecure with releasing phones that are a bit heavy and thick compared to the last gen phones. I wont even mind big bezel in a phone that comes with massive battery.

Look at the moto razr. 9mm thin and big but not outrageously big bezel, sounds like a perfect compromise for such a massive battery. Too bad motorola has hardly any influence on the industry.

This is what im talking about in regards to progression of technology, lower power voltage with the same or better performance... It makes the iPad 2 more enticing than the new iPad. I still see no need for a tablet, so ill continue to hold off a purchase made... in saying that if the new iPad improved battery performance by lowering the power voltage, i would definitely be interested in investing in one.

I own a ipad2 and don't even know what the batter life of it was. I see now its 10 hours and that a pretty impressive jump for these new chips. I do know is it last a long time for me and what I do with it.

just give me a 2cm thick phone with a big battery so I can feel ok not charging even day with heavy use. sub 1cm phones really have no advantage except fashion.
