I'm hoping Colonial Marinies does amazingly well in sales and scores, and Sega finally realizes that all they have do to is keep putting out games that take chances and are actually good, instead of Sonic, Sonic, and Sonic racers: Nobody cares edition.

Sonic Generations sold 1.6 million. Colonial Marines will be lucky to do 1 million, and over the course of its epic dev time it has probably cost a lot more than Sonic Generations did.

What they really need to do is flip Sonic fanboys the bird and target all future games squarely at little kids. They will never please the "serious" fans, ever.

Game reviews aren't mathematical logarithms. They are the result of an experience that makes an impression on the mental and emotional superhighway of the game reviewer. I don't have a spreadheet that starts with a 10 and has calculations built in, where "low frame rate" = a .25 hit to the score. It doesn't work that way, and thank God for that.

I have to admit Sega kinda lost it after they went 3rd party. They still made some excellent games but they never quite returned to their former glory.

That said, I hope they don't return to the hardware biz because they would face certain doom if they did.

Nope, they need to drop Sonic or at least remove its mascot appeal and focus on the more profitable publishing (Which did well enough that they are starting to go for bigger pudget publishing. which has hurt them a tad.)

Sonic devs need to slow down bring back old Ips with co-developers, and focus on publishing. There focus now on Sonic and a couple other "Liabilities" is hurting them and piling up.

Well, as the article says, this is just a rumor. Obviously Sega hasn't been doing great recently, but they're making smart business decisions lately in regards to their content, so they should be fine in the end. It really sucks for fans that some titles have possibly been cancelled, but I'm sure that when Sega can, they'll revive those projects. So yeah, Sega's not doomed.

Dedicated Sonic fans are not what they should be targetting and accliam doesn't bring profit. They need to bring back Ips, maybe put Sonic in a Forza release schedule and throw some more publishing around.

Sonic Generations sold 1.63 million worldwide from release to the end of 2011.

Sonic Colors sold 1.85 million worldwide.

Sonic's selling pretty good I have to say. Acclaim is a huge bonus too. If Sega and Sonic Team can keep going with giving us quality Sonic games, Sonics gonna rise again.

If you were a Virtua Fighter fan, you'd know that they've been making awesome decisions lately actually

In regards to their digital strategies, and their focus on IPs that make them money, they have been making smart decisions. They may not all be popular ones (like possible game cancellations), but they have been smart ones in a business sense. So that's why Sega's gonna be okay.

Next to Nintendo, Sega probably has the most lucercative and memorable franchises from the days of the 8 and 16-bit eras. They have countless franchises, but they either ignore them or release poorly thought out updates that toss away the spirit of the orginal franchises. Outside of Shinobi, Outrun, and Nights, have they successfully revived any of their older franchises?

Where is a new turn based Phantasy Star that takes advantage of modern hardware? Where are Xbox Live updates of their old arcade and console games like Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Space Harrier? Why have they not developed a new Eternal Champions or an update of their other 2-D platformers that aren't Sonic?

Nintendo has been very successful in both keeping their older franchises relevant and reviving ones that might have fallen off the map. Punch-Out, Kid Icarus, and Pilotwings are all old franchises that have been revived in recent years. Sega has a storied history in the video game industry, and they have many successful franchises beyond Sonic. While Nintendo embraces their history as they move into the future, Sega only seems to acknowledge their history when it comes to the Genesis, Master System, and Dreamcast. Collections are great, but how many Genesis collections do we need? Why not create new games based on the classic IPs? And I'm not talking about games that go against the spirit of the orgininal games.

Did anyone want Golden Axe to become a God of War ripoff?

Sega's greatest asset is their history, and they seem to ignore it outside Sonic. Yes, they have collections, but those seem like reminders to Sega's glory days as a console maker. If Nintendo can have great success with IPs that date back to the 8 and 16-bit eras, why can't Sega do the same thing?
