Now Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, Final Fantasy XII, Secret of Mana
My 100 favorite songs of All Time. And because I ran out of blog post space, here's the second part of the list.
Recent Reviews: Mother 3, Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

I've done one of these before, but that was a long time ago, so consider this the sequel. Feel free to answer all of them or the ones you want to answer. Anyway:
1. What kind of things do you write about? What genres do you usually write?
I don't write any genre in particular. I just write whenever I feel I have a good idea. I'm currently writing a novel about the sort of shallow inner-world of pop music. It involves a pop star who gets herself into a really fvcked up situation.
2. How do you get your ideas?
Usually by thinking about "what if" scenarios. An idea is typically only fleshed out enough for me to start writing a novel when I fuse it with another congruent idea.
3. What formats do you write in? Short stories, novels, screenplays, plays, etc?
I only write novels, but I'd love to start writing short stories and I wouldn't mind writing a play. I probably wouldn't write a screenplay though because it would bother me not being able to see my creation in its ultimate form (on screen).
4. Do you edit your work as you go or go back and edit after you've got it all on paper?
I'm pretty anal, so I'm constantly editing as I write. It is for this reason that the writing of my novels tends to go slowly.
5. Do you write in third person or first person?
Usually third person, but I will write in first person if I feel the character has an interesting voice and the story could be told more effectively through first person narration than third person narration. My current book starts in the third person but quickly switches to the first person.
6. Is there any new technique that you're toying with?
My favorite author is Kazuo Ishiguro, who writes the best "unreliable" narrators, so I'm trying to incorporate a little bit of that into my work.
7. Is there anything you try to avoid in your writing?
I try to avoid using phrases that are clever to me but probably not clever to anyone else. Clear prose is better than fancy prose. I also try to avoid using other dialogue tags other than basic ones like said and shouted.
8. What about writing comes easiest to you? What is hardest for you?
Dialogue is easiest for me because there's something about the rhythm of a conversation that just flows. Action is the hardest for me because it can get really clunky if you don't do it right.
9. Is there any common trait that your protagonists seem to share?
My protagonists tend to be female. I don't know why that it is. The kind of stories I write just seem more suited to female protagonists.
10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story?
Read as many stories as possible. Even a good writer won't know how to tell a story if they don't have a model to go off of.
11. Are you easily inspired?
No. I rarely get ideas that I think are good enough to turn into a novel.

I don't really deem myself a "creative writer," but I'll do this anyway:
1. What kind of things do you write about? What genres do you usually write?
To quote the OP: "I don't write about any genre in particular. I just write whenever I feel I have a good idea."
2. How do you get your ideas?
I derive a lot of my ideas from introspection and lessons learned from life experiences.
3. What formats do you write in? Short stories, novels, screenplays, plays, etc?
Short stories only - I don't think I'm capable of writing things like novels and plays.
4. Do you edit your work as you go or go back and edit after you've got it all on paper?
I constantly edit my work. And frequent editing tends to get in the way of my writing.
5. Do you write in third person or first person?
Almost always third person. Usually I feel awkward writing in first person when I'm writing a short story.
6. Is there any new technique that you're toying with?
I have a lot to learn; experimentation is not something I'm concerned with at this stage. So, no.
7. Is there anything you try to avoid in your writing?
Cliches and markedly unoriginal characters.
8. What about writing comes easiest to you? What is hardest for you?
I'm not sure.
9. Is there any common trait that you're protagonists seem to share?
I usually ensure that my protagonists have at least some pleasant personality traits.
10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story?
Read, read, read. And write a little bit, too.

Takes only a minute or two to formulate a plot for a novel. Hardest, not sure. Keeping tense maybe. 9. Is there any common trait that you're protagonists seem to share? Anti-hero's tend to be prevalent in my works. 10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story? Write what you are passionate about. 11. 1. What kind of things do you write about? What genres do you usually write?
I try to keep it without the horror genre, and from there, write about every day things that can turn into horror. Nothing wrong with a good ghost story either!
2. How do you get your ideas?
I steal em! Naw, sometimes in my dreams or "that'd be cool if..."
3. What formats do you write in? Short stories, novels, screenplays, plays, etc?
I tried writing a screenplay, but quickly gave it up. For now, I stick to short stories.
4. Do you edit your work as you go or go back and edit after you've got it all on paper?
Editing while I write for mistakes, but a true edit isn't done until you step away for awhile, and go back with a little less bias
5. Do you write in third person or first person?
The second person! I usually switch bettern third and first, but it really depends on the story. I still want to write a journal story, like Frankenstien.
6. Is there any new technique that you're toying with?
Just the greatest story never told.
7. Is there anything you try to avoid in your writing?
I'll avoid anything cliche, that I can help.
8. What about writing comes easiest to you? What is hardest for you?
The hardest is usually a character's name, I put way too much thought into that perfect name. The easiest is usually the title, for some strange reason.
9. Is there any common trait that your protagonists seem to share?
Nope.
10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story?
Write a good story.
11. Are you easily inspired?
I wish.

[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]
I'm not really a creative writer but, I'll respond anyway.
1. What kind of things do you write about? What genres do you usually write?
Mystery/crime, comedy, suspense, fantasy, action/adventure, realism, sci-fi, and non-fiction; well basically anything.
2. How do you get your ideas?
Many things that come to mind.
3. What formats do you write in? Short stories, novels, screenplays, plays, etc?
Short story, novel, summaries, and a few others.
4. Do you edit your work as you go or go back and edit after you've got it all on paper?
Yes, I check if my writing is consistent. In terms of checking ideas, I do self-feedback. Self-feedback is where I analyze it myself to see if the idea make sense and if it sounds good to me. Then I analyze it again to see how the reader will think when reading.
5. Do you write in third person or first person?
Mainly 3rd person but I can do 1st person too.
7. Is there anything you try to avoid in your writing?
Contradictions, extreamly outlandish thoughts, and plot holes.
10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story?
Imagination.
11. Are you easily inspired?
Nope.

I once got an idea from a dream, but usually I'll think a certain dream is a good idea for a book while I'm still dreaming (in alot of dreams I know I'm dreaming), but I'll realize how dumb it is when I wake up.

"There is more to a person than the body alone, many tend to refuse to see that" - Reina Beaumont
I'm female, please stop regarding me as male, I find that quite insulting and offensive, thank you.
1) It depends on the ideas. I just finished a two part story for my main work, more violent and much darker than I usually do. 2) It just happens. 3) It depends on the ideas, short stories are like practice runs and my longer stories usually, though not always, tend to connect to my main work. It's rare that a larger story will be a one off or receive a sequel. 4) I always proof read and edit my work several times over, if I miss anything on those edit runs then I do another edit run and make sure that I find all mistakes. If I adapt a new writing method then my older work may receive the update, if I feel it's workable. 5) Depends on the ideas. I can easily write in both third and first person. 6) I'm currently trying a new method of writing, it's pretty exhausting, but so far is showing some promising results. 7) I try to avoid any heavily sexual content since I find smut to be boring and takes away from a story. I try to avoid dragging a story out with unneeded fluff. 8) Writing female leads, which I do the most, is easier for me than writing males. I am unable to think and feel as male so my attempts to write a male character tends to suffer. 9) My main leads are usually female. I also focus strongly on character for a small set of characters, at times I might add humour, at other times I'll try to show the emotional and mental health of the character. 10) Write from the heart, don't force the words and try to create your own characters instead of taking from some anime that someone else has made. Edit often, proof read and always be willing to improve. Never, ever, develop an ego since that will destroy your work if you think yourself as the by all and end all. 11) Sometimes. It just depends on the trigger for the inspiration.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

=================================
I'm not agnostic. Just nonpartisan. Theological Switzerland, that's me.[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]
I've done one of these before, but that was a long time ago, so consider this the sequel. Feel free to answer all of them or the ones you want to answer. Anyway:
1. What kind of things do you write about? What genres do you usually write?
Science fiction of some sort usually. Urban fiction is my primary focus. But I write whatever I get good ideas about.
2. How do you get your ideas?
Everywhere and anywhere. Other books, tv shows, comic books, movies, even music. Another way is by asking myself questions about certain things or taking real life experiences of observations and throwing a layer of fiction on top of them.
3. What formats do you write in? Short stories, novels, screenplays, plays, etc?
Currently working on a novel.
4. Do you edit your work as you go or go back and edit after you've got it all on paper?
I edit as I go. I think trying to get EVERYTHING down and then going back and going over the ENTIRE thing again would drive me insane.
5. Do you write in third person or first person?
I perfer first person. But seeing a what I'm working on now is an ensamble cast I am forced to write in 3rd person. But that doesn't stop me from occasionally applying 1st person techniques when I think it works.
6. Is there any new technique that you're toying with?
Not really, mostly just trying to actually get the thing written haha.
7. Is there anything you try to avoid in your writing?
I try to avoid what I call the "two over shot", though It's really hard to do that. Basically It's the he said/she said back and forth. There are only so many descriptive ways you can express two people talking back and forth at length.
8. What about writing comes easiest to you? What is hardest for you?
Action comes natural to me, which I know most writers have a hard time with. Because It's not easy conveying excitement and adrenaline with words. Hardest for me would be descriptive paragraphing. like how to set up a scene or locale without it feeling like a overly wordy snore fest.
9. Is there any common trait that your protagonists seem to share?
Two words: grey area. My protagonists aren't heroes, they aren't shining examples of justice and doing the right thing. They are flawed, they didn't choose the to be in the situation they are in. So they do what they have to in order to survive another day.
10. What do you think is the most important thing for a writer to do if they want to write a good story?
The characters must be interesting and dynamic. All the greatest ideas in the world won't mean anything if you don't have interesting characters. When it comes down to it, all the events and situations you write are nothing more than an excuse to bring your characters together and tell their stories.
11. Are you easily inspired?
Yes, I get ideas from everywhere. Not all of them are good enough to use but I still get them. Heck one of the regular antagonists for the series I'm working on was inspired from a song by a local band I listen to. Ironically that song was inspiried by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft.
