In Sonic Generations, Sonic's history is divided into 3 Eras:
Genesis/Mega Drive Era (1991-1994)
- Starts with the first game Sonic the Hedgehog
- Includes the Sonic 2, Sonic CD, Sonic 3 and Knuckles
- There are some Game Gear games like Sonic Triple Trouble
Dreamcast Era (1998-2005)
- Also known as the 128 Bit Era
- Starts with Sonic Adventure and ends with Shadow the Hedgehog
- Includes Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic Advance 1-3
Modern Era (2005-Now)
- Also known as the 7th Generation of gaming
- Started with Sonic Rush on the Nintendo DS
- Includes Sonic 06, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Colors
Although the 3 Eras skip a few time periods (such when the Sega Saturn was around) and only a select number of Sonic games are in both versions of Sonic Generations, it gives an idea of the when Sonic fans were introduced and joined the fanbase, whether it was during the beginning, middle, or recently.
So the purpose of this topic is to answer this question: When did you first become a Sonic fan? Be sure to mention where you first heard about it or what your first Sonic game was.
I became a Sonic Fan during the Genesis/Mega Drive Era, and my first ever videogame was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis. I used to watch my uncle play the game and sometimes play as Tails.

I became a fan with Sonic's Genesis era. Sonic 2 was my first Sonic game. Since then, I have played pretty much all main Sonic games that's not on a handheld (although, I have played a few handheld ones too).

- Apr 7, 2012 1:48 pm GMTI started on sonic advance 2, then played all the ones from the dreamcast era. I'm glad sonic mega collection came out so I could play all the older ones.

- Apr 12, 2012 2:51 pm GMTSonic Adventure was the first game I remember. Personally, I prefer the 2D games (Sonic 1 to CD, Sonic Advance 1, and both Sonic Rushes). If I had a choice to limit the cast to only 5 excluding Sonic and Eggman, I'd choose Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Blaze, and Shadow.

I actually started out with segas handheld system back in the day it was called sega game gear I do believe it was pretty amazing it made the orginal gameboy that was black and white then look pretty weak. Then I moved into the backend of the geneis era 7 months before the sega saturn came to market. But gosh the games back then were pretty awesome I miss sega and wished they would come back to the console making business..
