Ahh... I grew with that :) Own a Famicom with the old trilogy and I still play them occasionally with a PC emulator. And yes, Dark Sword of Chaos was the best title but from the old trilogy, kinda feels outdated (of course) when you compare them with the new trilogy. A 90's 2D platform vs modern 3D platform with hack & slash. :?
Played NG1 on Xbox with friends, own and love NG2 for Xbox360, didnt played NG3 yet. And looking into "success ratio", taking in account the times and technology i guess the old trilogy wins (personal opinion here!). But it's normal I think. More technology = more options = more creativity = fun/flaws
