I put 7gb of ram in my computer recently and it seems like my computer recognizes it, but I was wondering, should I keep those numbers even? I have (3) 2gb sticks, and (1) 1gb stick. I was thinking about putting another 2gb stick in, but I didn't know how effective, or how much of a performance increase , if any, it would do? Anyone know that actual way to make sure your computer recognizes all the ram? I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, which I believe is able to recognize up to 16gb. My total memory vs virtual memory, physical memory crap doesn't seem close.

To achieve dual channel, you will either need to remove a the 1GB and a 2GB dimm, or remove the 1GB dimm, and get another 2GB.

    Intel Q9505 @3.6GHz | Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB @850/1700/2000
    Gigabyte X38-DS4
    | 6GB DDR2 @850MHz | Antec TP-650W

    Opera 12 Beta

Depends if your using a Socket 1366 or 2011 motherboard. (ie. are you using a dual channel, tri channel or quad channel board).

May as well stick with the 6GB, the extra 1GB stick isn't gonna help.

Cool. Thanks for you guys help. I really appreciate it. I know it isn't a great computer, but I figured I may be able to get some use out of it. I think I'll end up getting a high end pc before the end of this year, hopefully something with a I-7 processor. What are the best processors to look for?

You're not going to get any benefit, from removing the 1GB stick, you still won't be running in dual channel.

    What CPU do you have?

My only concern would be that All the RAM is the Exact same Clocks and Speed, which would be rare to have seperate brands of RAM.

I know you didnt say anything about if they are all the same Speeds or not, I'm just guessing they're not.

And if you mix and match your RAM speed, then the PC will pick the Lowest Denomitator.

Where I'm getting at is, if you have 6gigs of 1600mhz and 1gig of 1300mhz, then the PC will will run all the RAM at 1333mhz. I'm really not sure how ur PC will deal with the clocks - and I would also think that OC'ng would be a nightmare.

Although, I've never bothered to even try mix-matching my RAM, I've read a few articles of it being a better bet to have all RAM identicle. Just sayin.

Cool. Is that ok, or would it be better to get faster ram? I've heard that faster ram is actually better than more ram. Is that the case?

It depends on what your needs are, if 800mhz is fast enough...? As far as Faster RAM vs Amount of RAM - Its better to the best of both. In most applications of today, 4gigs would be enough - but you would really want those 4 gigs to be as fast as they need. Timing is also important.

It depends on what your needs are, if 800mhz is fast enough...? As far as Faster RAM vs Amount of RAM - Its better to the best of both. In most applications of today, 4gigs would be enough - but you would really want those 4 gigs to be as fast as they need. Timing is also important.

True. I have the 7gb installed in this HP, but I plan on taking the 1gb stick out, as I hear it is really useless, unless you have it upped to 8gb. I plan on taking the 1gb out and putting 6gb in my other son's compaq, which is basically the same PC , AMD dual core processor, 64bit Vista, that way both of them will have the same amount of ram. Kids, if one has something better your choosing favorites. lol

6400 means 800mhz
Cool. Is that ok, or would it be better to get faster ram? I've heard that faster ram is actually better than more ram. Is that the case?
It depends on what your needs are, if 800mhz is fast enough...? As far as Faster RAM vs Amount of RAM - Its better to the best of both.
