With Steam being the last Bastion of defence for PC gaming and most developers choosing to focus on consoles, I think it's safe to say that PC gaming is doomed. Recent company shutdowns, such as the S.TA.L.K.E.R studio, are one of many who are failing to cope in a climate where the consumer only wants to play on consoles. Quality PC exclusives such as Crysis are opting to be on consoles too and soon there will be no exclusives. Skyrim is console-centric, Dragon Age is console-centric, as it Mass Effect 3 by the looks of it. Looking at the recent CoD sales on PC also suggest that it's a dying platform; nobody wants to play it on PC, thus it'll continue to make a load of money on consoles.

Also, the expensive aspect of the Gaming Rig puts people off buying a Gaming PC; nobody in this climate wants to throw down $3000 on an alienware PC when they could buy a console for $250. This is making the PC market lose gamers, thus the console market is saturating. Another reason is that there is minor graphical difference between the 6 year old console and the new-line PCs. Uncharted and Gears of War, and even Crysis for consoles looks the same as PC graphics; and the PC gamers rely on 'mods' to make their graphics look acceptable. For example, Vanilla Naughty Bear on 360 matches The Witcher 2 on PC; here we have a clear example of why it is better to own a console.

Socially, it is less acceptable to own a Gaming PC; you're seen as much cooler and you get loads of friends if you own a console, especially a PS3, that is where all the cool brosephs are at. PS3 owners get invited to parties, drive fast cars and get lots of hos. Owning a 360 is okay, but you're a mere peasant in comparison to the Glorious Sony Master Race.

Anyway, I digress, the bottom line is, PC gaming is dying and I suggest those who own a rig should abandon it quickly before it is too late!

hmm let me get my stuff ready on why i disagree

Your reasons about the graphics are stupidly wrong

ere is what I have to say.

The steam userbase is growing every year by 5 million and more and more people are online a day on steam. Microsoft plans to integrate XBL into Windows 8 out of the boss a long with Windows 8 catering to all groups and being simple as a console (next xbox plans on using it). GOG (Good Old Games) the famous DRM FREE store plans on bring the goods to Modern Games so now gamers who don't care about Steam, Origin and all that can just download their games DRM.

AMD APUs are making PC gaming more affordable for the entry level. Even users with brandname prebuilt PCs have been surprised of what their APU can do in terms of gaming. Soon APUs in the future will be capable of more. AMD APUs also can provide users with a HTPC with great performance. APUs also have the ability where you can crossfire it with a cheap $50-$100 DX11 GPU and get even more out of it such as higher graphical settings 1080p and more.

As earlier Microsoft is now making Kinect for PC next year so yes a mainstream motion controller is now on PC, which will also boost the attention of the platform. In terms of Motion controls Kinect can be for the casuals and the Razer Hydra for the more core group. Controller support is becoming the norm for games with certain exceptions.

We also have companies ike epic games shifting back to pc

The F2P and MMO Market are spicing things up with games such Guild Wars 2, and FireFall. The F2P market has been gaining western developers such as Crytek, Pirahna Games, Red 5 Studios and more soon to come. Graphics, Animation, Physics

Here is a lil look of what's coming to us soon

    Tribes Ascend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oevWde_F-yU

    FireFall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g9xRCxWWd0

    WarFace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoqPjKP2jKI&feature=channel_video_title

If it's sinking then it's sinking.

I've heard so many people say that and then eat a lot of crow later that I simply quit caring.

But it is sinking, and very quickly. Soon there won't be any quality developers left!

Seriously, if people are gaming on Friday nights, they're probably dateless and not getting laid. Nothing will convince me otherwise. Do gamers here seriously think they look cool to women while holding a game controller?

Exactly my point; you rely on cheating to make your games good. A bad situation indeed when you need to do all the work yourself!

GSC hasn't officially closed, and if they are having trouble it's due to internal conflict not consoles.

Steam is constantly growing its userbase.

As an example: if new cars are getting faster, does that mean old cars are getting slower? No. Console gaming has grown, but that doesn't mean PC gaming got smaller, though I would argue that PC exclusive gaming has gotten smaller.
