Good gaming PC and which parts for under 400.00?

My son wants a gaming PC but I'm not wanting to spend a ton of $$. I don't need the monitor, which I have a few of those, but I was wondering, can anyone list me some parts that I might be able to order to build this PC, and still stay in the 300-400 range? Also, maybe some good websites to order it? I checked Alienware's website, but their cheapest was in the 800-900 range. Thanks.

I'm just trying to find him something that is medium range, that can play games like BF3, Crysis2, etc. , at medium settings. That system is no good, the cpu i can live with, but the ram is too little and too slow, the gpu is even worse. A 5570 will have trouble running battlefield 3 on the lowest setting.
Do you know where you would buy otherwise? are you prepared to build a system with parts?

Go to NCIX and ask people on there. They are very helpful and the cool thing about this store is you can price match items from other stores so you almost always get the best price. They also have a point system where you can earn points to get free shipping and other things. Some people will even loan you the points if you ask nicely. In order to get points you sign up for the weekly newsletter and also when you buy stuff review it and earn more points. You can also get points by helping with the Prize Picker when giveaways are going on and you can get points for certain methods of payment too.
In terms of building an affordable pc I would find it hard to believe you can put one together for $400 but you could get close.

If the TC can salvage an old ATX case, HDD, and optical drive from other systems, he may be able to squeeze in a Phenom II or SB i3 based system for that price.

Still, for the price, that HP system you linked with suitable upgrades is hard to beat, and I imagine that the framerate will at least stay above 20 (which IMO, is still very playable for such a game).
