28nm fermi your eyes dont decieve you.

http://vga.zol.com.cn/256/2564989.html

their primary focus for the gtx 600 series is energy efficiency and preformance per watt. not preformance. kepler wont be till the 700 series. HOWEVER not all is lsot for nvidia folks as kepler will be present in their mobility market.

this is further reinforced by the gtx 600 series codenumbers..

GK100 series..

http://vr-zone.com/articles/more-next-gen-gpu-codenames-revealed/13823.html

while too early to write nvidia off at the sound of this, we can certainly say that this doesnt look good.

Slightly disappointing, but not terrible. Going from 40nm to 28nm is a massive die shrink. Provided that the foundry is good, we should be able to see many more CUDA cores stuffed into the same die size of the current GPUs.

My 460's still running good so I guess I actually like this announcement. Good reason to not upgrade for a while longer.

Can't see a game much more demanding than bf3 coming, so for now I'm happy with what I have.

the 6000 series was the 5000 series revision. The 7000 series for AMD will be the real deal, lets hope nvidia can hold out.

Thing is I thought the GTX5xx series was the GTX4xx series revision as well. Usually these companies do the same thing as the other each generation too. Is it possibly that the 7xxx series is just going to be yet another revision line as well?

it could be, we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure though, AMD will make a significant improvement to tessellation performance which may or may not be a big deal to some people.

Everything I've read on the 6xx series and 7xxx series (which isn't much) says that they are mostly going the power efficiency route for 28nm. So I'd look for cards that are a little bit more powerful but less power hungry.

So its basically a die shrink of the 500 series, with no added extras? Hmm not bad, the performance boost from the die shrink should be good enough.

Same here, I got my GTX570 as a birthday gift from my family, back at the beginning of the year. I have done a decent amount of gaming on it, it is a beast, and I think it will last me some time, and when it starts to struggle I may use it as a dedi physx card (I plan to get several years out of this baby) New rigs and all.

Same, it puts a few degrees ontop of the already unbearable Sumers, but in Winter it serves as a space heater.

Im sure they haveba similar plan in place as AMD. I mean it isnt much different if AMD releases 7850/7870 as the 28nm versions of 6950/6970.

AMD's 7xxx is more power efficient than the 6xxxx. That is one of the prime goals. I'm not sure if the Southern Islands arch is similar to the Northern Islands arch though. It is expected that the 7xxx will be an average 35% to 50% more powerful than its 6xxx counterpart.

Now the question is, Will Nvidia's Fermi arch be able to pull those percentage increase as well in addition to being more power efficient.

Hopefully 2GB of vRAM or more becomes the standard in the higher end cards.

^What is the point of making the HD 7000s more power efficient than the HD 6000s...? My 6850 already consumes only a miniscule 127W and kicks alot of ass, they should just focus on performance.

Less power means less heat, so they really are increasing performance by giving the cards more overclocking headroom...

You missed the point. Why is that their prime goal when their current method already creates low amounts of heat and power? Their prime goal should be to go HARD on performance.

Companies usually alternate between improving the architecture, and shrinking the die size to reduce power usage. It's perfectly normal, and I'm sure that AMD will improve the overall archecture next time around ;)

the 6850 is a masterpiece, tbh, if they can do the same thing like the 6850 with the 7850 then they really got some geniuses over there at ATI

Setting your priorities on one objective does not mean you ignore everything else.

I'll repeat myself again, power and heat should not be their top priority, as it is already their strong suite. Focus instead on performance. Shouldn't be that hard to understand.

if you want to ignore power and heat and just want performance then get an nvidia card. My 6950 will be perfectly fine running on a 500 watt powersupply

Do you not recall the uproar over the first double slot cards?

They are increasing performance, but mostly they are focusing on power savings this node because that is what is holding things back. My 6950 gets to like 80c when I am gaming. I would feel a lot more comfortable if it were to top out at 60c, especially in the summer, air conditioning isn't common where I live.

Well i definatly wont be upgrading to a 600 series.

i think i will be upgrading my GF's fat !@#$ GTX 275 with the gtx 560ti equivalent replacement model. the 560ti would be a great current gen replacement, but she is barely testing the card with photoshop and Aion MMORPG (cryengine 1). we will probably be playing the Old Republic non-stop, so a gtx 6XX? would be a great upgrade for power consumption

Please tell me your sig is outdated, and you're not planning on replacing her 275 with a 560 Ti, when you're choking that poor 930 with a 5770.

AMD Bulldog was going to stomp all over Intel Sandybridge. Look what happened there.Speculation of what new hardware is going to do is pointless, wait for release when we'll get some real figures from reviews and tests.

she has a 920 :D mine is the 930. the games i play run fantastic with a 5770 at 1680x1050, dead space 1+2, supcom1+2, batman AA, crysis 2 was GREAt and crysis 1 still ran awesome. point is i am cheap coz i dont do a lot of PC gaming these days, mostly console. The only PC games on my horizon are Deus ex: human Revo and Old Republic. plus my vapor x 5770 OC's easy as. She cracked a whinge when i was upgrading from my 4850 (but it was really an upgrade, coz i sold it to my house mate so she could get a card on the cheap, so the 5770 was half price with that money).

ok the real point of my rant is that not everyone buys top end cards. After we paid $500AU for her 8800gts 640mb, then seeing it doubled in power and lowered in price to her GTX 275 we bought 2 years later for $299, i dont see the point of buying high end cards in this day and age of console ports.

AMD Bulldog was going to stomp all over Intel Sandybridge. Look what happened there.Speculation of what new hardware is going to do is pointless, wait for release when we'll get some real figures from reviews and tests.

yes but in this case nvidia is basically writing off improvements to their product in preformance.. more of jsut fine tuning what they have now. amd is promising somehting new and better than what they have which hasnt ever happened. amd has never gone and pulled a bulldozer in their gpu market nor did ati before them. about the closest they ever came was the hd 2000 series which is a fairly tough case to argue because the functionality it brought to the table was immense which is in a way "an improvement" it also look alot more aesthetically pleasing than any of the x1000 series cards.

hd 7000 even before specualtion will lsay the gtx 580 or its energy efficnet restickering the 680. wait on kepler nvidia folks.. this shows over before she even began.
